3770k vs 4770k

I'm looking into a new pc for rendering and some gaming. My budget leaves room for an i7, but I'm not sure which to go with.

I want as much performance as I can get, so I'm definitely going to be overclocking, but I also like low noise and heat.

I'm considering the 3770k because it runs a little bit cooler, which should leave a little bit more room for overclocking. One downside to the 4770k that I've seen is cpu degrading. I'm not sure if this is a rumor or fact, so I'm taking that very lightly right now.

There isn't a large price difference in the two, and I'm going mATX with the Silverstone TJ08B-E and a phanteks PH-TC14PE. The lga1150 boards have better features from what I've seen and I already have one picked out. Also, I don't care much about power consumption.

Well if you already have picked a LGA1150 board you will have to go with 4770K since the 3770K is LGA1155. I have not seen the CPU degrading anywhere and the core /clock performance on the Haswell is 5-10% better making up for some of the OC potential.

There isn't a huge difference between the two and the degradation is a rumor. I would go with the i7-4770K http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CO8TBQ0 solely due to the fact that motherboards are easier to find and cheaper to buy since Z77 boards are decreasing in production.

I believe it is a rumor since it would be all over respectable hardware sites like Tom's if it was a fact!

4770K purely because its future proof in some sense of the phrase because it has 8 cores with hyper threading and most games run 2-3 cores plus you have a graphics card to lighten the load. Plus more cores = faster rendering and multitasking.

It is and the 4770K performs slightly better. You really can't go wrong either way but the 4770K is a bit better choice.

4770k have some potential for heavy work, when developers start utilizing haswells extensions.
