:?: As a temperary solution, can a AM2 3800+ single core CPU be OC'd on air with no Vcore increase, to match a E6300 (not OC'd).

well then the 3800 would probably be better than the e6300
for gaming. even at stock speeds.
 Who ahh, somehow I don't think so - not at both stock speeds.

Toms charts testify to this, but I'd love to see a chart or other test with the 3800+ SC OC'd and the E6300 no overclocked with gaming at high quality settings.

I mean the question is in relation to saving $$ in the short term - 3800+ $157 compared to E6300 $255.

The 3800+ OC'd might perform just as good as a E6300 at stock which would be more than adequate for me in the short term.

a 3800+ is only $94 on new egg, oc to 2.8, 3.0 max usually.... if you want to really push your socket 939 to conroe levels then get a opteron 170 for $184... can overclock to speeds that will make it outperform even a fx 74 on some benches (not all, some).

i have a dualcore and a single core both amd
and have not seen any difference in gaming.
maybe my senses are dull

but i havent seen any difference between them.

(3800+ AM2 not 939)

New Egg is overseas northern hemisphere and price y quoted is in US $ isn't it.

In Aus (Aus $ is 79/80c US) and all the shipping etc, probably work out same as buying here.
