3rd Gen i5 vs i7?

Hey, I was wondering what would be better, how much better, and why its better? i5 3570 VS i7 3770? I am going to be gaming and rendering videos for Youtube, but what makes a i5 and i7 different? How much better are they compared to each other and why?

Also, if you want to answer this, what motherboard would go good with the i5/i7 at a $125 budget?

If you were just gaming than I would say the I5 but since you are going to be gaming and rendering than I would say the I7. You'll get the best of both sides.

The difference is Hyper Threading (HT).

It's useful for video encoding (assuming the program and video codec you use supports it). However, games do not benefit from HT, in fact HT generally decreases gaming performance by 1% - 2%. HT can be disabled in the BIOS upon boot up.

So an i7 is not worth it if you are going to be gaming?

If you were JUST gaming than no you would be better off with the I5. Since you are doing both gaming and rendendering though the I7 is better. You can just turn off the hyperthreading if you plan on gaming.

But you don't have to turn HT off to game. (doesn't seem to hurt with my 2600k)

Thee i7 is better if you are doing very intense rendering, however considering you are only rendering basic youtube videos the i5 will serve your needs perfectly. It is an extremely capable Quad Core processor that will not fail you. I would save the money and spend more on your GPU, which will affect your gaming performance much more directly.
