I'm new to this, so forgive my ignorance.

Here is my display setup on my R9 270x

  • 1x 1920x1080 monitor with DVI-D Cable
1x 1920x1080 monitor with standard HDMI
1x monitor with VGA (D-BUS) cable to DVI-D to VGA converter (£18 Startech one)) powered by microUSB

The two DVI-D monitors only work when the other is unplugged. So, only one can be on at a time.

Is this known issue, and is there a solution to it?

Thanks in advance!

Hard to tell with your specific card, since you didn't say what it is, but in general the 270x and in fact all R series cards only support three monitors when at least one is from the displayport. Some cards add additional equipment to allow three non-DP monitors, but in general they don't.

If you have a DP to VGA adapter you should try that

I can't find any VGA to displayport adapters, only displayport to vga - and that's what I need.

Ah, sorry - I misread it. I'm very tired, been trying to solve this forever. My apologies, I suppose I need to hunt down a displayport monitor then.

Or, as I've read elsewhere I would need two DVI-D monitors of the same resolution.

Solution

So, you're saying I *have* to use hdmi+dvi+dp and not hdmi+dvi+dvi with both dvi being the same resolution?
The DVI ports both work individually, but in conjunction.. Not at all.

Seriously dude.... I DID NOT SAY THAT

There, buy that item and you can use your current monitor...

No, I said that....

The DVI thing only works if the two monitors on DVI have identical TIMING, not resolution (though for the same timing to happen the resolutions will be the same). Unless you bought two of the same monitor, that will be difficult, and not all cards support that operation anyway.
