4:3 Large monitor?

I am looking for a large VGA monitor, but it seems that Widescreen has taken over the TV and PC monitor market.
I don't want to lose my 4:3 aspect ratio.
Any options out there?
I am ready to use an old CRT!

There are manufacturers that make 4:3 screens if you are willing to pay the pricetag. QXGA at 2048X1536 is the highest resolution in a 4:3 you will find. Here is one I found on NewEgg.com. Personally, I prefer the 16:10 monitors myself. They give you a little more real estate on the screen than 16:9 and will be a lot cheaper.

As I said, if you are willing to pay the price. The NEC in the link is only $3800. UXGA at 1600X1200 is the next step down and there are a few of those available also. This is UXGA equivalent NEC MD211C2.

OP didn't specify monitor size. I used the 21 inch screen as a sample since that was the largest one I could currently find on the market.

From what I've read, the QXGA screens are designed for the medical industry. As I said in the original reply, I would recommend the 16:10 screens. They are the best trade-off between 4:3 and wide screen 16:9.

I am actually trying to replace a 27-inch VGA CRT in an arcade game.
This particular game has a Pentium-3 running it.
With the original CRT, you get the right perspective, and the picture is "wall-to-wall" in the cabinet.

That's what I figured you were after. I think you're going to have to look at buying used. Either find something on EBay or perhaps salvage a monitor from an out of commission stand up system.

The last generation of CRT televisions had PC connections on them, that may be another possibility if you can find one. I have a 32" Toshiba in storage that has a VGA D-SUB on it but I never used it as a monitor.

My search just turned up a post -- almost verbatim of mine -- from 2008. Not a good sign.

I think my only hope is to fix the old VGA CRT.

That would be a great solution.
Where I live, CRT's are difficult to dispose of, so people are always giving them away.
Now I just have to find one with a D-sub connector on it...
I have never seen one.

A little small. This is a driving game, and the 27-inch display made you feel like you were really driving.
I don't think 20-inches would cut it, unfortunately.

Oh, when you said something about a 21" model in one of your posts, I thought you were asking for a 21"
Sorry, I misread there.

BTW, do you know if a TV would actually work for computer type use with their ultra-low resolutions and interlacing? You probably know more about the tech than I do.

I don't know about motion, but the older arcade monitors were CGA. People look for the original CRT's to get that original look. Something about it being not 60 hz ??
I think it's worth a try.
This one is from like 2000. It runs on Windows XP, but I haven't checked the resolution settings.

UPDATE: Plugged a 27-inch CRT TV into the S-Video out on the PC, and Voila! Great video!
