Hello!

So I got myself a new router for ca 4 days ago. The new router is much better and newer compared to the one i used before. Only problem is that everything is unstable. I check my "Network and Sharing Center" and it looks pretty good there with 785Mbps, and 4/5 in signal. I afterwards check my ping, DL & UL- speed on speedtest.net. It comes up with this: 41ms, 6.31 in DL speed, and the UL speed at 0.06.. which is not great at all. I have tried using ethernet cable, which gives me a stable Mbps at 1.0Gbps(Network and Sharing Center), but everything else is the same.

I got my pc in June 2014, and then i got the ASUS USB-N13 11n USB Adapter with the pc. The usb adapter was crap, and i had this problem back then aswell. about 1 week after i got my pc i got a better network card: ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 Wireless Adapter. With that i also had this problem, but after having it some weeks it came to its state as it should be. Now that we got the new router i am having this problem too. As logic pass by, my brain says that this problem will be gone in some weeks, but it shouldn't be this bad? Really need some tips and advice or maybe answers so what can cause this problem as it is very frustrating.

Network card: ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 Wireless Adapter
Old USB adapter ASUS USB-N13 11n USB Adapter

New wireless router: D-link DWR 956 (5Ghz, 2.4Ghz)
Old router: AirLink 89300 (2.4Ghz)

I do connect myself on the 5Ghz network as it would be the best choice for my NW card.

and yeah before i forget... With the old router, i was getting around 124Mbps and 2/5 in signal. 46ms, 15.95Mbps DL speed, and 13.97Mbps UL speed. I have also tried to download a game on steam, and the highest DL speed i have had with the new one was 1.0Mbps, but on the old one i got around 1.9Mbps... the new router very unstable as it goes up to 700mbps, down to 432mbps, 254mbps, 90mbps, and then down to 9kbps. Strange huh?

If a wired connection to the router gives you the same ping and speedtest results, then the problem is between your router and your modem or your modem and ISP. Did you use a brand new cable between your new router and modem? If not then use a brand new cat5e cable. Did you power off your modem for 5 min then power it on with the router powered off. Then after the modem has initialized power up the router?

Exchange with what? not sure if that is possible... i bought the router down in south Norway while i live in North Norway

Persistent trouble from these Dlink routers. I bought one in April, and after 3 calls to their tech support, with multiple factory resets, and 2 months of headaches, I tossed it. I have used gear from multiple other manufacturers, and never had any of these issues. For the record, my model was the 820L, but I have seen plenty of other problems on these forums with the Dlink stuff.

Suggest buy another brand of router!
