Hi all,

I've just upgraded my PC and realised my PSU is a 4 pin connector but the motherboard has an 8 pin connector. I've plugged one of the 4 pins into it and it works fine, however will this be suitable for gaming, such as ARMA, Squad etc? Or will I have to get a converter cable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The TDP for the CPU is 54W.

Specs:
Gigabyte B360M HD3 LGA 1151 mATX Motherboard

Aerocool VP 550W PSU

Asus Phoenix GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5

Intel Pentium G5500 3.80GHz LGA1151 Processor

8GB DDR4 RAM

Solution
Check to see if you have another 4 pin cable. the PSU usually will split the 8 pin into 2 4 pins (which can go side by side to fit) if you don't have a solid 8 pin connector.

It does have another 4 pin tied to it. I tried that initially but the computer turned off a few seconds after starting. I also had the CPU plugged into SYS FAN by accident (which is now in CPU FAN).

I don't know if using the two 4 pins caused the crash or if it was the CPU being in SYS FAN. I'll have to try the two 4 pins again now the CPU connector is in the right place.

I assume it's unlikely for two 4 pins in an 8 pin connector to cause a crash?
