4 pin in 8 pin power Ok with gtx 660?

Hi this is my first post here..
Anyways I build my own pc this weekend and ran into a problem.
I got a raidmax case that came with a 500 watt power supply. My CPU is an AMD 6 core processor. My Gpu is the evga geforece gtx 660. I now ask this... Since my power supply has it's wires inside the unit and I can't add any. Would I be able to put my 4 pin cable into the 8 pin slot? My motherboard is a gigabyte 970a-d3. And I need to know if it is safe to use the 4pin in te 8pin slot. I at the moment don't have the money to get a different psu. So in the meantime I just need the computer for school work, iTunes and the web. Am I safe doing this? I don't want $900 to go to waste...

Can you be more specific? What 4-pin cable? And what 8-pin slot? The GTX 660 requires only one 6-pin. So that doesn't fit what you're saying. Maybe you're talking about the CPU, but that seems unlikely as well. So I'm a bit confused.

I got my graphics card's power fine ... I'm referring to the CPU power. It's an AMD 6 core

Ah ok. That is fine. The only concern would be the lack of overclocking potential. Other than that, it will be fine and is safe to do so.
