I am building a new pc once the new intel 14th gen cpus get released. I will be getting a ddr4 z690 board for it. Both the 14600k and 14700k are the choices im between. I game at 1440p and my monitor is 170hz. Which gpu would work best for my needs?

If you only do 1440P, then even 4070 is a over kill.

Only you can put a value on having more frames. It is greatly going to depend on the game. Some games you will only be able to tell the 4090 is better because you are running a frame rate counter on the screen. Many games at 1440 a 4080 has no issue running at very high frame rates.

If you run some of the recent games like cyberpunk with all the options turned up even a 4090 struggles at times.

So mostly depends on what game you play and the option you set and of course how much money you are willing to spend.

4090 is a card that will get used for 4k gaming and there no point in spending that amount off cash just to play 1440P but if your planning getting 4k monitor then gohead or if you aregraphic drsginer but just to play games you could save money 4090 is big overkill

I own cl14 3600 32 GB RAM now and the motherboard I have on my parts list is the MSI mpg edge z690 wifi ddr4
Your going to need to update the BIOS on the motherboard somehow. Either pay some shop or have a processor that works out of the box with it.

The 4080 should be fine but it's not really worth the money.

Not sure waiting or the 14xxx processor make since it's only a refresh with about a 0.2 speed increase.

personally id steer clear of 14th Unless you are looking at the 14700k and already have the LGA1700 platform.

i would be wary of 14th on a z690 anyway unless its a high end z690 then you need to either have the pc shop update the bios or spend good money after bad just to update the bios to accept 14th gen..

depending on your current AMD mobo why not just stick a 5800x3d in it and go the 4090 job done 1080 1440 4k all day everyday !!

I have a micro atx case so i would need gpu case and CPU mind as well build a new PC if that's the case.

what AMD mobo ?
I mean even if you upgrade to a ATX case for the 4090 a Itx or Matx board is going to fit

Its not like your sporting a Matx or ATX mobo and looking to go a itx case ..

my distaste for Intel is not there cpus's but there socket life that said if you slap a z690 with a 14700k in a build it will have little life span as 14th is the last ( im going to say pointless waste of sand ) cpu for the LGA 1700 socket..

where as a decent b650e with a 7800x3d will still take the 8000series and possibly the 9000 series .. so a few more gens of upgrades ..

OR
the old AM4 with the 5800x3d will cost you the cpu only if you already have the board

yeah even just slapping a 4090 in there will give you huge performance ..for the time being
and if your hell bent on intel wait for the 15th atleast then you should get 2 gens of cpu life out of the board !!
say I got a lian li 216 and a 4090/4080 would it bottleneck my 5700x that i lose performance?

from what ive read most likely yes the 5800x3d would be better or go ZEN4 ..

Im not steering you away from intel because i have a deep hate of there products i just think Value for money and life span AMD is the better option now !!
