Question 4090 TUF temps of 74C and hotspot 94C, is this normal? Should i look into repasting?

Hi!

Ive had my 4090 TUF since just after launch and ive noticed now that when playing control my GPU had temps that i think is too hot.
I then looked at some reviews of the TUF card and found one from Hardware Unboxed (

), where their temps are 67C and hotspot 77C.
This review and my temps are all on default mode of the card.

Ive looked around abit and seen that repasting can improve the temps, but first i want to make sure if it even is a good idea or if theres some other info that can help?

94C is still acceptable. How are your clock speeds looking?

Most reviewers tend to do open bench testing, so their results may not match yours exactly.

I probably would. But it is up to if you want to take the risk when there are basically no GPUs available on the market.

You can repaste but those temps are acceptable. Also tune the fan speed to 50 percent at 28c helps as Nvidia curve is focused on quiet not performance. You will probably a temp difference of 5c just doing that alone

My clockspeeds are 2730MHz, only sometimes dipping down to 2715MHz, but very stable.

I am running this with my sidepanel off and it is basically in the open so i would expect something similar to open air test benches, but i am seeing a 17C temp diffrence on hotspot 😨

Around what temps is it degrading or dangerous to run at for constant load? I have seen people say aslong as its under 105C it should be okay.
Would running at for example 102C hotspot constant for hours have a negative effect, or is it actually "okay"?

That game "HAMMERS" GPU's. You should be so lucky. When I first played it and turned on RT just to see what all the fuss was about, my 3080 it around 92c. It is a 1st gen RT game. My advice is to turn off RT and watch the temps return to normal.

105C is the typical junction temperature limit. The card will start throttling before that would be my assumption. Most Nvidia cards have throttling begin at 83C + 17C in your case would be 100C.

Cooler is better, not just for boost clocks, but longevity.

You can also set power limits lower if you want keep things cooler. Changing out the paste and thermal pads for some up market stuff might drop a few degrees.

Temps of 15c-20c hotspot is fine as long as it stays under 100c

Cooler is better as eximo said cooler is better but it's almost impossible to get the cooler to perform better you can try replacing thermal pads and better pastes.

( Pads news to be exact thickness)

Thermalright tf8./ Mx6 paste is ok.

Clean with isopropyl alcohol 99 percent for cleaning either pads or you can get a bottle and cotton swabs to clean the GPU die.

Extreme case water cool
