Which would you buy for a gaming pc at 1680x to handle decently for 3 years or so with a gtx 960 2gb? I dont care much to play on high settings

the cpu budget is somewhere in that range. No OC and no further cpu upgrade.

can you pick between just 6300 and 860k for a bit lower budget build?

and a motherboard for ~70 bucks. One x16 pcie is enough, 2 ram slots and maybe hdmi connector. Does an intel board handle bluray movies well? on it's own without the gtx

psu seasonic 430 ( not the eco one) which might need improving if im going with the more power hungry amd

Solution

Yeah, there's that one too.

It would seem that best choice for you, is to go with i3 4170 + B85 motherboard.

He already has GTX 960. And he doesn't have enough budget to go for better cpu. No matter what.
local retailers either dont have the 6100 at all or its not in stock

EDIT actually I managed to find it in some places for the similar price to 4170. The motherboard would be 30 bucks more but doable. Ram only 5-10bucks more than the 1600 I was thinking. Can you recommend some specific motherboards pls?

6300 is too expensive. And what if I dont go with the 6100? I need a backup plan in case this retailer doesnt have it either

I think that's a good idea, I'd also go the i3 6100 hands down if it fits in budget. Very good all round gaming cpu, and very upgrade-able for the future, on the latest platform and much more efficient than what amd has to offer.

If i had to chose an AMD cpu of the ones mentioned, the fx6300 for sure, its the fastest of those for gaming.

Back-up plan would be to go with H97 or Z97 motherboard and i3 4170 which you can upgrade to i5 4690/4690k or even i7 4790/4790k.

Also, are you from US or what?

Nope not from the US. I use price range from places like newegg tho to give you an idea what I aim for.

back to 4170 even if i dont plan to upgrade it further? after some years i will just get a new pc instead of upgrading something.

is it a problem if I go with cheaper b85? gigabyte hd3 or dsv. Maybe AsRock but I dunno if they are actually any good. I need some specific models for 1151 btw. ~70-80$. Btw these models dont support 2133mhz. They are also DDR3

is the jump to ddr4 2133mhz really worth it?

I found this cheap board ASRock B150M-HDV that has 2133 support. Cant find any comments abut it online tho.

For 4170, the B85 is fine too.

Also for 6100:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($121.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H170M Pro4S Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($81.00 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($51.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $254.98

And if you are planning on completely new build after like 2 years, then definitely go with 4170 + B85/H97 for now. (B85 will often require BIOS update)

What about b150? Can I please have an h/z170 alternative to asrock? asus/gigabyte. And a 2nd alternative but cheaper. on the b150. Again with asus/gigabyte options also.

This is the cheapest I could find. BUT it can only use DDR3. Which isn't exactly wisest thing to do with Skylake. I don't know why they have made those boards use DDR3 even though Skylake can't even properly use DDR3, except for DDR3L. Regular DDR3 will just get down-volted. Thus lowering the clock speed.
Kind of defeats the purpose.

can you recommend a lower budget mobo then for the i3 6100? pls

Oh yeah, no issue at all, plenty of power for that setup, but as I mentioned if you go with a lower end motherboard like a b150 or h110. This will save you considerable amounts of money and have 0 impact on your fps

This has all you need for a budget gaming pc.

pcie 3 16x slot
Sata 3 controllers
USB3
No real shortfalls as far as gaming is concerned

The New skylake highly clocked i3's are a going to be amazing. 3.9 Ghz Clock speed, hyperthreaded. I'ts gonna be quite amazing.

If you decide to go with the 4170 I recommend getting a B85 chipset, the h81 chipsets tend to lack some very basic features, I remember seeing one that didnt even have sata 3.

Made some calls to local retailer shops and they really dont have the 6100, not at shop and not at importer either. It's like it is some kind of conspiracy to just sell other i3s instead. It was the same price too. This means Im gonna have to go with 4170.

will this GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D2V be ok? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128673

or the hd3 for 5-10 more bucks but i dont see why. Unless the d2v goes out of stock too :)) apparently there is 1 left at the shop or I have to wait from their supplier.

No I can not find them locally either and by locally I mean at all. I think they likely perform so well it would displace the current Haswell i5's. I mean usually they would be released along with the i5's

would probably wait it out till they start stocking the skylake i3 to be honest. There are retailers here in Australia starting to stock them, and we are normally the last country to get anything new, so they cant be too far away at all. And even if they aren't in your price bracket, the haswell chips will go on clearance and you should be able to get a discount on them.

problem is i dont wanna wait more. Im now using a pc without graphics board because my 460 died and want a new pc.

g45 770 msi

amd x4 635 2.9ghz

3 sticks of 1333mhz 2gb each

1 500 gb AAKX WD sata2

cooltek k3 case with a noctua fan in the back

and a dvdrw

silverpower 400w

i will likely sell it all except dvdrw and i might keep the case too actually. the ram depending what mobo I end up buying. Might keep hdd too.

well buy the graphics card first then. I also wonder what your current rig is? we dont want to be downgrading you if you have something like an older i5/i7.
