4670k mild overclocking to 4.0

HI,

I recently overclocked my 4670k to 4.0 by just changing only the CPU multiplier to 40(4.0).

I did not change anything else. My CPU voltage is on auto as well as the others. While on Prime95, I noticed that my voltage is automatically set to 1.245 with average temps of 75C.

I'm using Gigabyte Z87X-UD3h mobo which does not have an adaptive function for the voltages.
My question:
Is it safe to leave voltage at auto?

What cpu cooler/heatsink are you using? The stock? 75C does seem a little high, even for haswell, at a 4.0ghz oc, unless you're using the stock cooler/heatsink.

However, you're fine leaving your voltage to auto as long as your system is stable. My general rule is to only start worrying about voltage once you hit the 1.3-1.4v range and temps start to get high.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using H80i as a CPU cooler which has only slightly less performance than the H100i.. I think I have a bad chip though T_T

Hmm, I think you should be getting lower temps during Prime95 (like high 60's).

Maybe you could try reapplying the thermal paste? That's often all that's wrong.

Sounds good. So my CPU clock is now 4.0 as well as my cache ration is 4.0 to have a 1:1 performance.. that would be OK right? all the voltages are set to automatic.

What would you recommend as a thermal paste?

And making your cache ratio equal your cpu multiplier clock doesn't really matter that much. As long as you're not getting a BSOD, you're fine.

Specs:
4670k @4.0Ghz
Mobo: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i

I'm mild overclocking my 4670k to 4.0Ghz. I only adjusted the CPU multiplier and Cache ratio to 4.0 and everything is automatic(including voltages). Everything is stable when I ran Prime95 and IBT.

I just noticed than my max voltage(set to auto) reaches 1.245v in full load and 0.716v in idle. I felt felt that 1.245v is way too much for a 4.0 OC; But since Gigabyte does not support adaptive voltage settings, I used offset voltage : (-0.045) so that my voltage under load would only be 1.20v, however it makes my idle voltage to 0.636 - 0.657 which I think is too low?.

My question is:
Is it safe to have that low voltage 0.636 - 0.657.?
My current settings is very stable on stress tests but is there a way to test stability when Idle?

If you find my question kinda silly, please forgive my noobness since I'm new to overclocking.

There's really nothing wrong with having voltage be too low as long as you don't get a blue screen. The only real way to test stability while idle is well, to leave your computer idle. Leave it on for a few hours (you can be downloading something) and come back later. If your computer hasn't crashed, you're good to go. But I'm pretty sure you're fine as I bet you've already left your computer idle for a little while before.

I really wouldn't stress out about voltages. Unless you're in the 1.3-1.4v range and/or temps are getting too high (like 80C+) during a stress test, there's nothing to worry about. Your cpu will still outlive pretty much every other component in your desktop.

Also you could try lowering voltage manually to get lower temps just lower it little by little until its not stable or wont boot

I like my voltages automatic so that it can save electricity when idle. That's why I'm using the offset -0.45v.. apparently Gigabyte does not have adaptive mode
