Hey guys,

My 4790K has been breaking records since previous week. Just playing games like Far Cry 3, Far Cry Primal or Watch Dogs 2 takes it upto 80-82 degree celcius within an hour. Cinebench took it to 85.

Prime95 26.6 small FFT took it to 95C then I stopped the test

Cooler is a Corsair H60 (seriously a pathetic cooler. Bending the tube to install the pump was nearly impossible). The CPU is running at Stock Speeds. Also I set the Vcore in the BIOS to 1.2V manually.

I tried reseating the cooler properly several times but no luck.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

It won't be 44C ambient temperatures inside the room. Maybe around 32-28 in the dry heat as we tend to use desert coolers. Rainy season is another story, we need an AC then. Don't forget to get a better case too. As I said PrimeABGB sells the Noctua CPU coolers at a very nice price in India (3000-6600)

My system is 7 years old and I have lived in New Delhi, Amritsar, Hong Kong, US and...
From the photos presented, a couple things come to mind:
1.) is the fan blowing the right direction?
2.) I can't tell if it's dusty or not. Cleaning it is never a bad idea though.
3.) You've probably collapsed the tubing by bending it so hard. Try mounting it so the barbs/tubes are on top, if space permits.
4.) does it make a gargling noise if you shake the unit and try to power it on again? If there's enough air in your AIO, it's essentially useless.

I had an H100i that made a nasty gargling noise every time the system was powered on, so I modded the crap out of it (removed the internal jet plate/gasket for sh*ts'n'giggles and extra water flow; lapped the cold plate surface), and added a Swiftech MCRES to the loop. I finally have max load temps of 83C when running P95 small fft's. With a stock H100i, I'd thermal throttle within a minute of launching the torture test. Same with my Cryorig H7. I suspect delidding the thing would help temps tremendously, although YMMV.

I tried disabling HT but it only made a difference of 1-2c.

Yes, the radiator was dusty but now its super clean. Still the temps are the same but the radiator and the tube is damn hot to the touch.

The pump does not make any gargling noise, its only 5 months old.

The fan is set in a pull configuration and is blowing air out of the case.

Do you guys have any suggestions for an air cooler that could handle this s**t overclocked as well? And just for your information guys, 36c ambient is just the starting. Later on the ambient will be like 39-42c

I've reseated the cooler almost 15 times in every possible direction, still no luck. I'm almost out of Thermal Paste now

For delid yes, Intel has still used super c**p TIM b/w the die and the IHS. Since 3rd generation, I think most CPUs have encountered an overheating issue. I've never seen such CPU (4790K) in my life. My friend also has a 6700K with a Corsair H115i and his temps are like 68c well under heavy load @ 4.8GHz w/ 1.39V

Looking at the picture of your system a few things come to mind.

1. Get rid of the CPU cooler, it's way too small to handle your CPU's heat dissipation. You atleast need a front mounted 240mm liquid cooler or a Noctua Nd-D15 or similar heat sink. If you are in India, PrimeABGB, TheITDepot and Amazon India have good prices, you just need to hunt down a good deal. If you are in New Delhi, just head over to Nehru Place and buy one in person.
2. You need a better case, the one you have is too small. A cheap alternative is Cooler Master CM Force 500 or the new CM Master Box 3 for around INR 2900-3000 in the market. CM Force enables you to put 6 fans in total in the case and also a 240mm radiator on the right side.
3. Your radiator is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Also 7700K is not a good CPU either when it comes to temps because of Intel cheapening out. You will have to delid it and use a metal based liquid thermal solution for it to perform better.

You need 2 things; a better case, a better liquid or air cooler, heck even a Hyper 212X would be better, just add another fan to it yourself.

Cheers,
Chris

For some odd reason I get worse performance with 2 fans than 1. (Hyper 212 EVO)

Yup, the performance is more of less the same with 2 fans as well, but it helps suck out the dust from the cooler by creating a better suction than a single fan. India in general has a dust problem because of traffic and population.

Well, it does 2C better not much. Plus my idle temps on my CPU are somehow 5-7C lower than my ambient, but my room is anywhere from 40-60F depending on time of year.

Thanks a lot eveyone for answering :)

Alright guys so a better cooler be it. I'll remove the H60 and buy something like a Noctua D15 but it'll take some time (max will be 4 months). So will running the CPU like it currently is running for 4 more months harm it in any way?

And yes in India the ambient might increase as high as 44c in the future

Well 4 months with it that hot is a lot, if you do that dont play a lot if much at all and turn it off when you dont use it. My CPU ran at 70-80C and only lasted a year, but it was a while back.

My system is 7 years old and I have lived in New Delhi, Amritsar, Hong Kong, US and now Bangalore with the same machine. All I did was change the case, add 2 more case fans, add a better cpu cooler and voila it maxes out at 60C on stress and torture tests.
