480w Enermax Enough to Test I7-3770K + Asrock Xtreme 4 to rule out bad 750w PSU?

I'm having a problem with my new build, as it will not start up (no lights, fans, etc) and I'm trying to figure out if it's my Seasonic x750 PSU.

Before I go shoving any paper clips in there, would there be any harm in testing my old Enermax Noisetaker II 485w on this build with only the CPU, Heatsink, and RAM installed? (Already tried with just one stick, and then no sticks on RAM... though I wouldn't be able to hear beep codes w/out a built in speaker anyway).

Enermax Noisetaker II 485w can power the system not only testing purpose but for regular use as long theres no monster GPUs attached :lol:

That's way more than enough to run that system 24/7. Not the first choice for a PSU but you're not even going to pull 150w

The other two are right. Sandy-Bridge is extremely efficient; 480w is enough to run that i7 easily, every day. It would even leave enough room for a very nice mid to mid-high end card, as Kepler and GCN are also very efficient!

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Luckily, the SS isn't dead after all, so my "monster gpu" potential is still there. 😀

I still have a lot of love for that old Enermax and will make sure it goes back to work on an older build but it served me well for troubleshooting as well.
