Hi Toms Hardware. I'll try to make this sound intelligent.
I'm playing rally games (currently WRC7) on triple 49" 4k TVs. Using Nvidia surround at a resolution of 11520x2160 @60htz. GPU is a GTX Titan X Maxwell.
Now the game can be selected in the display settings to output this resolution above. But with the desktop resolution set to the same and the game in full screen very low FPS low 40's is only possible with all low graphics settings and post processes turned off. It actually looks ok'ish as a stationary picture, just unplayable at these frame rates. Need 60 FPS.
So after outlining all that.
If I select the 4k game output of 11520x2160 @ 60htz and play on 4k capable screens set to surround resolution of 5760x1080 or even 5760x1440 I can set medium to high graphics and some post processing like FXAA, depth of field etc turned on and get a solid 60FPS Vsync on and over 90FPS Vsync off. And the graphics quality of the game looked incredible.
"what's the Bl**dy question" I hear you cry.
Question is, "What am I actually seeing on the 4k screens? Am I seeing triple 4k resolution (output from the game) or am I seeing 1080p resolution that has been downscaled from 4k by my GPU and wasting resources.? Sorry for the long intro, just I guess it needed outlining. Cheers.
