4K Not Showing Up In Windows Display Settings

Hello, I recently purchased a 4K projector for a theater room in my new house but whenever I go into the "Display Settings" on Windows 10 it does not show 4K as a resolution option, the highest it shows is "1920x1080 (3D)" my graphics card can support 4K (AMD Radeon HD6900 Series) I've checked multiple times online and it says it does and in AMD Catalyst Control Center it even says the resolution of the projector is 4096x2160 but Windows is not displaying any 4K options! Please help! I am running the projector through a DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 4K adapter and my HDMI cable came with the projector so it obviously supports 4K.

Yes indeed it is HDMI 2.0, the adapter and HDMI cable also say they support 4K or 2K resolutions (just for future reference)

I'm a bit confused as to what your setup is currently. From your graphics card you have it plugged into a converter, and then into the projector?

Could I get the model of the converter and projector if you don't mind?

My current setup is I have a 24" 1080p monitor connected to my gpu via DVI, I then also have the projector plugged in but using a DisplayPot to HDMI adapter (as the projector does not have a DP port) ORIGINALLY I had both plugged into DVI but the projector was using a DVI to VGA adapter and the 4K resolutions were displaying in the list but not 3840x2160 or 4096x2160 only some random 4K resolutions were there. As for the projector and adapter, here are the links to where I got them:

The 6950 according to AMD supports 2560x1600 max.

My card is not the 6950 though, it just says 6900 series...

Just want to point that the native res listed for that projector is 1280x800, and that it simply supports (or claims to support) 1080/UHD/4K signals downscaled, however, I'm not sure you'll have any luck getting it to display any of those.

Your adapter is HDMI 1.4. Last I checked there were no display port to HDMI 2.0 adapters. The adapter does not support 4K. HDMI 1.4 is not capable of it. Its not going to work.

I did a test with the projector and put some 1080p and 4K videos on a usb and yes, the 4K did display and it did look a lot better than 1080p...

Playing back a video with whatever resolution is NOT the same thing as actually running the display at that resolution, once again, you are downscaling. Have you ever once actually been able to successfully set the desktop resolution to 1080/4k? That's what's important here.

Yes actually, it is displaying 1080p right now at 60hz

As also pointed out. No HDMI2.0 on the projector. Is not even 1080p. You are never going to see a difference between 4K and everything else. Its not a 4K projector

According to a different forum it does support full 4K resolution. What do you guys think? Should I just get this? Keep in mind this graphics card will only be used for movies or videos in 4K not gaming...

You will only be able to get 4k 30hz.

That graphics card will work for 4k 30hz, over HDMI.

Movies are in 24 fps so that won't be an issue, but you won't be able to watch 60 fps videos in all their glory.

The only thing you need to do, is go into your NVIDIA Settings, by a right-clic on the desktop. And activate the Dynamic Super Resolution "DSR" in the 3D options. Cheked after the resolution multiplicator up to 4X to get 4k.

(If not, install your Graphic Card Software by looking at your Graphic Card model in the "Device Manager").

If you have an AMD Graphic Card, open AMD Control Center and apply DSR as well. AMD 970 and older only support 1440p.

Thank you for everyone who replied to this. I am happy to say that 3 years later I have got the projector to display 4K using a GTX 980 (turns out the 6950 was not capable of 4K afterall). I'll leave this thread here in case one of these solutions helps someone else out.
