Hello, I purchased a Lenovo Y50 UHD 4K laptop and knew it came with Windows 8....I had never used Windows 8 prior to using this laptop and really dislike it (Windows 8)...dislike it so much I unpackaged the laptop set it up and tried to figure windows 8 for about half an hour...and gave up haven't used it since in my 3 day ownership.

I like good ole Windows 7 and would like to downgrade to it, my main question is if I do downgrade would everything look super small to where you just can't use it? Like the start menu, task bar, apps, etc...I ask because the 15.6" display is 4K with a resolution of 3840x2160....Windows 8 is ok on the display a few small things here and there but it's usable but would like to know if Windows 7 would be usable on a 15.6" display with a large resolution before I go out and buy a copy of Windows 7.

Thanks

Specs:
Lenovo Y50 UHD 4K
Intel i7 4710HQ
16GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M 2GB
1TB HDD+8GB SSD (Will be upgrading to 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD if Windows 7 works well)

Solution
Windows 7 scales just fine with some tweaks.
Google "4K themes" for more help. You will have to set custom icon size and a few other options.
Just dump 8, get the 7 drivers and install 7.
Eventually you can get as good at 8 as you are at 7, but how many hours are you willing to spend re-learning what you already do well?
If you just don't like the menu interface of Windows 8 then just download start is back or classic shell (classic shell being my preference). After that small tweak it's just like Windows 7. But with better multicore optimization and power usage.

Oh and if you don't like the metro apps I don't know why you would like the stock Windows 7 apps either. I always use superior third party software for my music player and photo viewers and such so that really isn't a con in my book. But you can choose by default what application you want to use with what associated file type easily anyway.

1 vote for using Start8 here. It's not free (I think it's about $4), but gives you the best of both worlds. All the performance, resolution scaling and enhanced features of Windows 8 (which are actually significant) AND a Windows 7-like start menu.

I supported a small business with a number of users who struggle with IT, and they've managed Windows 8 fine once I put Start8 on the machines.

Start8 looks good...I'm going to try it out...but I'm also going to install Windows 7 on a HDD and swap it out with the currently installed one and see how that goes....but Start8 is looking good fellas thanks for the help
