[SOLVED] 4th slot not working? Defective ram or motherboard?

I recently bought a 4x4 Corsair Vengeance ram DDR3 1600mhz for my i7-2600k build. The motherboard is an Asus Maximus iv gene-z. I first ran it in dual channel mode to test to see if it worked. It worked so I put a 3rd ram stick in the 2nd slot. It worked as well. But when I put the 4th stick in the last slot the motherboard reads a code 55. Any solutions? Do you think it's just a dead ram stick or could it be a dead slot?

Have you tried clearing CMOS?

I agree. Reset cmos to remove any overclocks and see if that clears the issue. Then you can find your new stable OC. 4 rams is harder to run then 2...

How do I clear the cmos? I think this may be the solution because my cpu is overclocked to 4.7ghz.

Hopefully it is the cmos. My cpu is at 4.7ghz. maybe that's the reason?

Switch off PSU and unplug from outlet. Remove coin battery from motherboard for 10 minutes. Reinstall battery, plug in PSU, switch on and power on.

Okay cool. Do I have to take all the hardware out of the motherboard or is it alright if I just take out the battery itself? Thanks in advance
