4x4 too much ram?

So back in 2012 I bought 2x4gb of ram. A couple of days ago I noticed that only 1 of the 2 sticks were installed, so I bought another 2x4gb of ram.
I slammed all 4 of the ram sticks into my computer and next thing you know I have 16gb of ram installed.

The only things I do on my computer is to play games and relax on the internet.

So my question: is 16gb too much? Will it have any negative effects as opposed to 8gb of ram? Should I downsize to 8gb even though I already have 16gb?

16 gb is overkill but it will not have any negative effects, i would keep it for sure! In the future it might be useful

If you're an avid multitasker, particularly in a browser like Chrome, along with games, etc. open, you'll definitely appreciate the extra RAM.
