5.0 band cuts out randomly

So i purchased a new router because my old one was having issues(poor signal and thew 5.0 band cutting out). So my new router (asus RT-N66R) works pretty damn well except for the fact that the 5.0 band cuts out randomly. It stops working and im unable to connect to it until i change the control channel. Now my father has a private vpn( he works for cisco so its a heavy duty integrated services router) that is located next to the home network router. So my best guess is that this is an interference issue. I've already talked to asus customer support which was like smashing my head against the wall since its in india.

Any thing in the router logs?

Check with your father. Compare settings/channels between the two devices. See if some mutual agreement can be worked out to use different channels if there are any conflicts or overlaps.

After that maybe move one of the routers.....

Need to confirm or eliminate the interference issue one way or another.
