I just got a HD 7970 Sapphire for my computer, and after installing the card and starting the computer I get no video and my my mobo beeps 5 times, which is apparently a cpu problem but my cpu was working perfectly a week ago. Even when I remove the gpu and boot it up it still beeps. I should mention my power supply died and I replaced that as well, could the power supply dying have damaged my cpu?

Specs
AMD FX 6200
Sapphire HD 7970
8GB RAM 1600mhz
Asrock 970 extrem3

Thanks in advance

The psu died from accidentally being left on all night, this is the only reason i can think of that could have caused it to die (it was a cheap alpine 550w).
I replaced it with a corsair 550w 80 +
What is a clear cmos?

It's certainly possible that's what happened. Given the motherboard beep code, the CPU is definitely the first suspect.

Did the machine ever work after replacing the PSU, or has it been nothing but beeps since then? Would also help to know the model of both the new and old PSU.

Im suspecting it is the cpu as all the fans run and everything works fine besides the video not showing up and the 5 beeps, its a corsair vs 550w, and nothing would work with the old cheap psu

It died silently no bang or funky smells.

Your motherboard uses an AMI UEFI BIOS, not the old conventional text based AMI BIOS.

On the old conventional text based AMI BIOS 5 short beeps means a Processor error (i.e. The system CPU has failed).

Try a different graphics card (i.e. one that is confirmed to be working).

I mean, did the system ever work with the new PSU, or just spinning fans and beeps?

Is there another system you can test the video card in?

There is not another system I can test the gpu in, and it is definitely not the power supply because its brand new. I am going to borrow a cpu tomarrow and test the system , and from that I can determine wheather it is the cpu or the mobo
