I went to my bios to OC my cpu but there I found that the 5 volt was too high (6.98), I have not had this problem until now , the Psu is a corsair one. The entire system is about 3 months old.
the system is very stable and runs very chill ~40 idle, 55 in games and ~65 during rendering.
There are no actual noticeable ill effects.

So is it just my sensor that has screwed up in monitoring.
Feel like getting a multimeter and checking, if so which colors should I check.
What effect could this have, like what could it damage

Yeah.....but if it's just the sensor, that's not the end of the world. There are definitely worse situations to be in. ;)
I don't think your 5 V rail is actually at 6.98.

I think that if it was, your PC wouldn't run.

I would check it with a meter.

Put the minus lead on a black wire on one of the PSU connectors and put the plus lead on a red wire. It should read between 4.75V and 5.25V.

If it is indeed at 6.98 volts....all sorts of things can be damaged....which is why I think it's likely that it's not.

Thanks for the reply, that is exactly my speculation.
I will update once I have checked the voltage with a multimeter

too bad, seems that I have a damaged motherboard sensor, system was brand new but nvm
