Forgot how overwhelming this process was. Younger-me enjoyed it...older-me is just looking to get it over with. I honestly have no clue what I am doing anymore and I'm not interested in getting into it again. All opinions welcome and appreciated....really just need parts recommendations.

Old Build Here (2013) - PCPartPicker - Except I am running an EVGA GTX 980 GPU at the moment, and I have a much better Samsung 4k monitor).

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP, old compy is breathing death rattles

Budget Range: < $3k

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Many chrome windows, gaming, streaming, working.

Are you buying a monitoro No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, CPU Cooler, Case, Motherboard, RAM, PSU

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, stores near me

Location: Costa Mesa, CA, USA

Parts Preferences: Intel

Overclocking: NEVER

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 4k

Additional Comments: No AMD, no water cooling, no overclocking, keep it simple. I don't need the best but i do want high-end, I don't need fancy bells & whistles, I just need another ~5 years of functionality. Motherboard with bluetooth and/or WiFi would be nice but not critical, as I plan to have both either with USB / PCI(e) add-ons or built-in. One thing I hate about my current motherboard is all the switches and buttons I can push to enable / disable useless features such as ecoboost and whatnot. The fewer of these I have to learn and/or deal with the better.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current PC is BSODing every time I blink.

well here are my suggestions.... and yes the Asus board supports 2M.2 SSDs, I listed your monitor because you where keeping it.

The GPU and monitor are the least of my concerns right now, as they are both performing extremely well at the moment. I'd like to upgrade the CPU, CPU Cooler, Case, Motherboard, RAM, and PSU.

Newegg says that CPU is only compatible with Intel motherboards. Does that mean Intel chipset mobos or Intel brand mobos? It also shows the CPU sold at ~$340 from other vendors which is a significant cost savings. I like that it's marketed as "good for VR." Any other CPUs like this? Doesn't look like I can get my hands on this one any time soon.

weirdly enough it seems the 8700 is out of stock in a great many places, so I changed the listing for a 8700K, yes I know you mentioned no overclocking but even without overclocking the 8700K has a higher clock turbo speed over the 8700 and is in stock for 390. I also remove the video card and monitor since your not worried about those being upgraded.

uhhh, why 2 m.2 SSDs?
Just get the 1tb and be happy with it.
Maybe a 3-4TB HDD, which would be the same price as the 250ssd.

Actually, I'm currently running 2x 128GB Samsung SDDs and a 1TB HDD, so I'm not terribly concerned with upgrading storage either. I don't know much about M.2 vs SATA, but I know that all 3 of my current drives are hooked up to SATA 6.0 GB/s ports.
