Looking to build a fairly cheap pc or purchase a prebuilt for a friend. He's going to be using it for iRacing. The budget is $500 but if we need to stretch it to $600, that's fine. He already has a keyboard and monitor but it would be nice if we could squeeze a decent monitor into the build if possible.

Solution
Excellent. What fan would you recommend?
Use the stock cooler as its is pretty sufficient. You do not have much budget for a seperate cooler anyways.
If you go with the 1600AF, you can squeeze in a better card in there...

The R5 1600 AF is much cheaper, and roughly the same performance, as an R5 2600. No Mail in rebates included. A little over the $600 mark.

I've seen Dell XPS machines occasionally go on sale in that price range. But, you're then dealing with integrated graphics, so you'd still be looking at spending money on a video card anyway.
You're right. It's been so long since I've used a prebuilt. He's just not quite sure about $700 after buying the OS. Hopefully he gives in. Thanks guys.

Forgot to ask. Why are you guys recommending 16GB instead of 8GB for a low end build?
Because RAM is already pretty cheap than it was a while ago. Also a lot of games these days need beyond 8gb. Not to mention if you multitask or open a couple of Chrome tabs along with a game, 8gb will struggle. Add to that, your system reserves some amount of RAM for background operations.
