I have about $500 and I need everything...basically, I have no PC parts at all. So I need a case, ram, cpu, video card, motherboard, hard drive, cd-rom, psu, monitor, soundcard, keyboard/mouse, speakers etc. I would like the fastest and best pc possible for this amount of money and the fact I need to buy almost EVERYTHING.

I do NOT need an amazing/good video card...this is a NON-GAMING PC and I do NOT need an Operating System like Windows, I already have that. This PC will be for home application use mostly.

Can someone please make/post me the very best PC for around $500? remember this is from scratch, I need almost everything besides an OS.

Best bet, go to tigerdirect.com, they usually have refurbished OEM machines like gateway, etc. I have seen them in the 300 dollar range, then add a monitor.

PC was 349 I think, and Monitor is like 149 for 19 inch widescreen, should put you just over 500 with shipping. I mean I don't think you'd beat that deal if you don't want to game. If you do, look at the specs, but I think it has a PCI express slot so you can add a video card if you decide on some gamin later.

Tough to build at $500 for everything. Something like this would be a little over $500 but better than any off the self PC if you can come up with a bit more

buy a dell. see if you can get one through med/large biz that has Ubuntu preinstalled. that way, you aren't paying for an OS.

How about:

GIGABYTE GA-MA69VM-S2 AM2 AMD 690V Micro ATX AMD Motherboard = $60
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Brisbane 2.2GHz AM2 65W Processor - Retail = $64
A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 = $46
LITE-ON BLACK SATA 16X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM = $24
WD Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA- OEM = $75
IN WIN IW-C589T.J350BFU2AD ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply = $55
Logitech Value 100 Black PS/2 Standard Keyboard - OEM = $7
Logitech SBF-90 Black 3 Buttons PS/2 Optical Wheel Mouse - OEM = $5
Logitech S120 2.3 Watts (RMS) 2.0 Speaker System - OEM = $12
Acer AL1706Ab Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor 270 cd/m2 500:1 - Retail = $150

Total = $498

The system g-paw put together uses the 690G chipset which has HDMI built in, and he includes a floppy, better speakers, faster DVD burner, etc. I think the In-win case looks better than the Rosewill, and there's a lot to be said for 320G of hard drive space.

You still get manufacturer's warranty by buying parts and putting it together yourself. Only that you have to do a little bit of self-support to figure out which part isn't working before RMA'ing it. You really don't want to send a part back only to have them return it saying it works perfectly :(
