quick question. I have a 500w PSU a 1080ti and upgrading to a 2600x. I dont think the 1080ti is overclocked and I plan to OC the 2600x in the future. Is 500 enough or should I upgrade.

thanks

(fill in bubbles and it'll estimate the PSU size you'd need. dont need buy it from evga and can go elsewhere but its good to benchmark your power needs)

with a 1080ti, ryzen 5 2600x (OC'd), and a A320 / B350 / X370 MB, and 1 ssd and 1 hdd (usual way ppl do it) the estimated psu size was 650.

so you will likely need a new PSU (usually go 1 over what it recommends just incase i wanna add something later that needs mroe juice and price isnt much between psu's)

also checked the 1080ti's manual and it lists a 600 psu as min. (so u would want higher than that as thats just for gpu)

Any cheap suggestions? Looking at a "EVGA A-Grade Certified Refurbished 850 BQ" on neweggs ebay store or rosewill arc series on newegg.ca

Energy efficiency has nothing to do with quality, I've seen bronze units that are better then some silver/gold units. The Seasonic Focus Gold is probably one of the best PSU's out there and would be enough for your build.

have either of you dealt with pc-canada.com before? I like to stick to newegg and amazon but neither have it for a good price.

550 wont be enough for him.

the 1080ti alone manual says 600.

he will also be using ryzen which is more power thirsty than intel AND they want to overclock it in future.

its better to get a PROPER 650+.(i'd personally go 700 or 750 since u do plan to OC)

this means you dont waste money for a weak psu and then waste more money to buy a better one when it isnt enough for OCing.
also PSU do best when it isnt completely being used (hence u want headway)

canada newegg for psu's. set for 700 and 750's. if you are fine with refurbished there is a corsair one for liek $70 if u scroll down a ways.

what about the what about the evga GQ series?

It's not a very good unit, EVGA has some that are excellent and some that I wouldn't put into a gaming system. And I'd rather have a well built 550W unit over a 650W/750W low quality unit. If you want a 650W then go with the 650W version of the Seasonic Focus Gold I posted above, remember your PSU is the most important part of your build and a junk unit can not only destroy your parts but some have been known to catch fire.

I guess I'll go with the focus. Now my only "dilemma" is that newegg has the ssr-750fx for 99.99 with $20 MIR and 7.99 shipping.
Amazon has the ssr-650fx no mir or shipping. both come out to ~$120. The 750 would be $100 after MIR but feom what I found it requires I cut things out to send in and I'm not sure how that affects warranty if something were to go wrong.

On another note, the psu isnt estimated to arrive until dec 3, could I continue to use my current PSU or can under powering cause parts to die? It would only be for a few days, if that. But depending on when I get my other parts I don't want to wait for the psu to use them.

EDIT: I realized the first question had some useless info, the amazon order doesnt matter as new egg is better either way. Also turns out the MIR might expire before it even arrives so. will probably order the 750 just to have.
