500W psu with r9 280x? Here are my specs!

Okay people i really need your suggestions on this one as I am currently looking to upgrade my graphics card and am on a budget. I have decided to go with a r9 280x will a 500w psu such as this one(( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027&cm_re=corsair_cx500-_-17-139-027-_-Product )) work?

Cpu: AMD Athlon x4 750k OC'ed to 4100mhz through CatalystControlCenter
HDD: 2 HDD at 7200 rpm
Fans: 2 big 120mm fans one with led
USB: a couple of usb's plugged in drawing power
Drive: 1 basic dvd drive
Ram: 1600mhz 8 gb stick
and a wifi adapter

Ya 🙁 thats what i thought. I really don't want to fry my computer though. That would just be the worst cause this thing is my only gaming/everything device since i sold my 360. Guess my gpu upgrade is going to have to wait for awhile until i can muster up the cash. Plus overclocking is something i definitely want to do so I'm going to need some head room. Plus it would be nice to get a new monitor along with a new gpu. Guess the 7770 is gonna have to do for now. Thank you for saving my computer from eminent destruction!

280X only consumes 250w full load. So you're probably getting atleast 400w on full load with your system. I have seen some people who use that psu with no problems, though I think they use 600w.

"NewEgg also states that it's rated for 12V@38A (456W), but the label on my unit clearly says 12V@34A (408W). I don't consider 48 watts on the 12V rail to be merely a minor discrepancy."

Quote from one of the reviewers. Get a GTX 760 or R9 270X instead.

I would really like a new graphics card now. Do you think the r9 270x would run (being overclocked like my cpu) on my 500w power supply

Yes, just don't take the Sapphire R9 270X Toxic and you'll be fine. that consumes a lot of power.

okay I need some more help and would be very grateful to anyone could answer this. I have searched the web for information regarding this many times and can't come up with a definitive answer. DOES A r9 270x 4gb version use more wattage and power than the regular r9 270x 2gb version? If so how much? I know the maximum wattage for the regular version is about 180w.

Thanks! Now you said the Sapphire toxic edition consumes a lot of power. It is a 4gb model. What makes it so that it consumes so much more power? Also won't 4gb make a difference in Skyrim or Fallout with really high detail texture packs? Or when using anti-aliasing?

It's a factory overclocked card so it runs on higher voltages and consumes more power.

I'm going to go with the 2gb version cause it doesn't make a difference I guess. Okay last question before I buy the card. Take it easy don't push it too far. CX generally has a weak 12v rail. Upgrade it ASAP.

Will do! thank you so much for the advice that simple web searches won't give. I am going to get a nice psu to build on for my next computer build that i plan on doing once Fallout 4 is announced. ( fingers crossed for within the next year) Im planning on getting a nice psu ASAP that is at least 750w. Like the one I think you recommended.
