533Mhz motherboard support 800 Mhz Ram DDR2

Prior to installing the RAM, the motherboard had 512Mb DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz installed. Now it not worked. Then I bought a new one which is 2GB Ram at 800MHz. When I installed 2GB Ram, it indicates 1GB. My motherboard is Asus MX1333. Does it perform with DDR 2 at 800Mhz. Is is damage my motherboard too??
Any suggestions?

The max is 667 Mhz. I think the mobo is damaged unless BIOS hasnt been updated and each slot only sees 1GB.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Update your BIOS, you mobo support 4GB, that means 2GB per slot.

And your new 800MHz RAM only can run at 667MHz, BUT this isn't dangerous for your mobo.
