Hi folks,

My brother is building an accessory development unit in his back yard and is nearing the point where he needs to make a decision on whether to pay to have fiber or cable run from the street to the new unit. I’m wondering, with the 5G network right around the corner, is it still worth running cable to the building? Will 5G be able to replace a home internet system?

Best,
Chris

All depends on how greedy the cell phone companies are. It has only been recently they have "unlimited" plans for phones and there are still massive restrictions on what they mean by unlimited.

Even though the 5g actually works best for home users compared to mobile users I can't see the cell companies looking to actually compete with physical cable to people houses. In many cases they would be competing with themselves.

We will see where this goes, lots of talk about google fiber a few years back and now its all silence on any expansions.

A few years ago gigabit Internet for home was the sole domain of Google, since then everybody is doing Gigabit. Something happened and we are better for it.

Why should anybody think 5G can beat fiber, performance for buck?
