So I have a budget of about $6,000 NZD to spend on a setup. My current setup is old and not running the newer titles very nicely. My PC's specs are i7-920, Gigabyte EX-58-UD5 Gen 1 motherboard, 6gb (3x2gb) DDR3 @1633mhz ram, GTX 970, 650w non modular 80+ bronze certified PSU. The Asus VP278H is my main monitor at the moment. My Peripherals are deathadder elite mouse, G512 keyboard and playmax X2 mousepad. Personally I don't like the deathadder elite as I think it's too big and the side buttons aren't as nice as I thought. I love the look of the G512 and it's RGB but not a fan of the way the keys feel (linear btw). I like the mousepad but I wish it was a bit longer. My headset is a random one that I picked up cheap so need a new pair as it's very bad and the mic is awful.

The setup needs to have
Gaming PC (capable to run games at 144fps+
New monitor (144hz+)
Speakers (needs dedicated sub)
Headset stand
Headset (prefer wireless)
Mouse (prefer wireless)
Keyboard (prefer tactile bump)
Mousepad (need it to be rather wide e.g Goliathus Extended Chroma)
RGB strips
Things to help with cable management

P.S I love RGB and I have the Ikea linnmon Alex table in black with drawers on both sides
Thanks in advance 😊

That was as much RGB lighting as I could find, 1440p 32" monitor and peripherals (I kept them Corsair so you would have one lighting software solution in iCue).
You would still have $650 NZD to get the stand and mouse mat.

Think that set up would get you 144 fps gaming quite nicely (obviously dependant on the games you play, standard disclaimer that not all AAAs are created equal :))

1)It's not like the old monitor's broken, so it can still be used... dual monitors, perhaps?
2)There's some info omitted regarding playstyle, so I added another 1080p high refresh monitor, but an IPS one.
3)Very little reason to go over a 2070 Super at 1080p; a 2080 Super offers like 15-20fps more, but costs a lot more.
4)Just carry over the old storage drive(s) if they're still good and use the SSD for an OS drive + some games.
5)All from the same store for simplicity's sake.

Big budget, but not really necessary to spend it all, unless the new monitor HAS to be a higher resolution as well, after which the gpu would change to a 2080 Super instead.
The other little peripherals are up to you, OP, since PCPartpicker doesn't accommodate them.

Would you go with 1440p, 144hz or 240hz, 1080p? I have been stuck between the 2 for a while now haha. I think 1440p is good for chill games etc minecraft, farcry primal whereas 240hz for competitive games like CS:GO and Overwatch

I have a very hard time looking at a system specs that has ~ 1000 dollars worth of peripherals but only has a 3600x.

For me this is insanity. That system should have a 40 dollars keyboard and mouse with a 3950x but that's just me.
The client only seems to be interest in gaming... all the other 3000 cpus just offer more cores/threads and not speed, so for just games the 3600X is plenty.

As for the peripherals thing, I shot myself in the foot locking Partpicker to just 1 store. The options were, very limited...
I suppose I won't do that anymore unless the OP requests a specific store otherwise.

Most people would try to get all their parts from 1 store, yes?
And when they can't find a specific item, are they more likely to purchase from a different store, or grab an alternative from the same store?

Oh well, I lose this round.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't complaining about your build in particular. With the messages count, likes that you have I know you know what you're talking about. It's just me. :)

I'm the kinda guy that buys 20 dollars keyboard and mouse with a 70 dollars headset and call it quit ;p

I would totally put that extra money on a CPU I don't need and 32GB more ram etc.

You didn't lose this round. It was just me whining :p

3600x is great for gaming. I did consider a 9900k then realised that going Intel isn't very smart at the moment and the higher in the Ryzen 3000 series you go, you essentially get more cores and threads but with marginal increase in gaming performance

Aye, Intel really doesn't offer very much at all over Ryzen 3000 for the price; it's bloody terrible.
Even the whole 'I want all the fps' excuse doesn't really hold weight anymore for a product that offers a performance uplift in single digit percentage while costing over 50% more... Screw you, Intel.

But, some people insist on sticking with Team Blue regardless. Well, I can only try.

-More money than sense
-Intel is all they've ever used, and they don't want to switch for whatever reason.
-Some people STILL aren't even aware that AMD is back from their 10 years of isolation in the 'lab' working on Zen. Those folks have been out of the loop for quite a while...
-Intel fan: will believe whatever BS the Blue Team will cram down their throats
-Some people are simply using the wrong sources for information. Some reviewers and benchmarkers are actually biased towards one company or another; most likely being paid by said company to do so.

That's what comes to mind, at least.

Completely agree. Although Intel is better with certain applications is it not?

Well... yes, but not by a significant amount.
Plus, with Intel being Intel, their prices counterbalance what edge they did have. They've been making moves to lower their prices - still not great though.

Just like with games, you could get a 9900K or KS, OC it to 5.2, 5.3 - whatever, and outperform a 3700X by like 10%.
Nice, right?
But then you look at how much more you spent over the guy with the 3700X...

Hahahaha I couldn't agree more to be honest. Oh well. Good to see AMD returning instead of Intel being on top. Will be interesting to see what happens with Radeon 🤷‍♀️
