6 Beeps on new gpu

Ijust plugged the new gpu into my pc power it on and then no display and it gives 6 beeps

Processor: Intel i7 920 quad core
Gpu(new) R9 290 4GB
Gpu (what used to be inside) two hd5770 in crossfire
Psu 850w alienware standard
Mother board alienware aurora r1 board
Ram 12gb

With my old cards I notice I get power to my extensions (keyboard etc) but with new card none of that lights up just hear the 6 beeps and see fans all moving etc

But one other persons posts that it could be memory/RAM...so...

To clarify a little bit, can you boot into Windows if you put in ONE of your old 5770's?

Yes with the old gpus I can boot it up just fine

OK, so based on the link I posted earlier and your comment that the old GPU works fine, it seems itr may be a bad video card. What kind of GPU is your new video card? If it's a GTX 9x0, you may need a BIOS update for your Alienware/Dell.

EDIT: Nevermind, saw that you have an R9 290. You might still need a BIOS update. Some R9's have a legacy BIOS compatibility switch on them. See if your GPU has a switchable BIOS/UEFI.

That's the GPU OEM. We need the brand and model. If you look on the box it should say something like "MSI R9 290 Gaming 4GB".

To explain a little further, AMD just makes one of the chips on the R9. We need the name of the company that assembled the card (including the AMD chip) into a whole graphics card, along with the model name.

If so, try to look for the BIOS switch on the card. The webpage above has its location on the card if you scroll down a little ways. Try flipping that switch and see if you can boot without the 6 beeps.

Did some research on that card, and I couldn't find evidence that it had a BIOS/UEFI switch. That limits your options. At this point, it looks like your best bet is to put your old video card back in, then download and install the latest BIOS for your motherboard. You should be able to get it from the Dell support page at:

http://support.dell.com

If that doesn't work, then your system is either incompatible or you have a defective card. If it is defective, the best way to verify that is to try it in a different, relatively new system.

Sounds like a bad GPU.

Did you look in your motherboard manual to see what 6 beeps means? It probably is the video card, but you may want to see what your motherboard says. It could be a power issue, or something else.

So, it does appear to be the video card, or CPU. I'll assume the CPU is fine if it works with the other video card, or IGP. The GPU could fail due to power issues as well. Make sure it is properly plugged in, and seated for that matter.
