Can I use a 6-pin in a 8-pin slot for a month-long period time motherboard is a gigabyte b350 - ds3h and the CPU is actually the ryzen 5 1600 X APU and if I can do I put it towards left side or the right side

no you can't.

the 6-pin is designed to provide 75w while the 8 pin provides 150w. the gpu would choke out as soon as you tried to tax it if it let the pc boot at all.

the gpu needs all the power it asks for to work the way it is intended.

For a GPU? Typically, no. There's a reason they're spec'd for an 8pin.

It *might* work, and would only physically fit in one way.... but I wouldn't recommend it.

If your PSU does not have the appropriate connections for the hardware you want to use, that's a sign you need a new PSU.

Yeah I'm building my first up-to-date PC I've got a ryzen 5 1600 X Apu 600-watt Cool Master power supply that has a 6-pin and a 4-pin is it safe to use a 6 to 8 Pin adapter for one month until I can get a new power supply. Oh and the motherboard is a gigabyte b350 - ds3h / 3 120mm fans /1 80mm fan /two 7200mhz hard drives and one stick of patriot viper 2666mhz ddr4 8gb. Oh i forgot one of those 120mm is on the crossair h55 liquid cooler. So should i hook the pump up to the system fan header in stead of the cpu header dont know if that will make a difrance im knew to this. Thanks

1) The 6-pin connector is only for an expansion graphics card. It cannot be used in any other capacity.
2) Your power supply only comes with a 4-pin ATX_12V cable. It should connect to your motherboard's 2x4 12V port using left-most four pins (pins 3, 4, 7, and 8 - See your motherboard manual pg. 13).

Ideally, you'd want to replace the power supply with one that does have the 2x4 12V cable, but you should be able to get by with just the 2x2 12V.

Also note that the 1600X is not an APU. You will need a separate graphics card.
The APU units are the 2200G or 2400G.

To the graphics card well its the old blue conecter but the card has the slot for the one with the flat bar on the right with two pins above and below that bar and i do have a adapter for that dont think its going to work just order a 4 pin to 8 pin and goin to try tomarrow ill keep you guys up to date just might have to whaigt for more money for a apu

If your monitor has a VGA input and your GPU has a VGA output (Blue connector).

The other one that you describe is a HDMI port. Your monitor needs a corresponding input.

If you are getting no monitor signal on a VGA connection then swapping to HDMI to VGA Adapter will not help.

It seems to me that you need a new PSU more than you need an APU.

Do you know for sure that the old GPU is in working condition?

No clue its from a hand me down my friend gave me hes had for 10 are 12 years lol its ok thought the rest is good signs i thinkwith the hard drive light flickering and all the fans com8ng on next mounth gitting a dagger mini itx 600w moduler apu and a vega gtx 1060 6gb gpu singal fan so as long as the rest arnt defualty ill be all right

Well desides not to give up plug in the little speaker to the mother board got one long beep and two short beeps turns out my ram wasnt seeded are should i say push all the way in lol now i just need a old school key board to install win 7 cuaz it dosen reconise a usb one no worries up grading to ten next mounth the four pin to the left did work

You can download and run Windows 10 direct from Microsoft and just run it, without activating it until you can purchase the Windows 10 key. One member I know has been running Windows 10 this way for well over a year now. He gets all the updates and it runs perfectly (just no customization to appearance).

Cool thanks ill do that but next mounth buying a licens there like 15 bucks but you cant use it on any other comp after the fitst install from what i here it locks it self to a the first mother board you install it on

All previous versions of Windows OEM software does this. With Windows 10, you are now able to purchase an OEM license and assign it to a Microsoft Account.

you need to change the partition type.

You should be able to do this at install time by deleting all of the partitions. Alternately mount the disk in a windows syetem (internally or externally) and use the "diskpart" command line program.
