60 hz 1080p on 4k 30 hz monitor

Hi, I have a 4k monitor (DELL p2815q) that i got as a gift and it has a dreadful 30 hz refresh rate. I was wondering if I should just keep it and play my games at 1080p at 60 hz or should i just buy a 1080p monitor and sell this one for around 200 dollars as i have gotten an offer for that. And my gpu isnt powerful enouph to power a 4k monitor for games anywasy. so any insight would be wonderful.

Also are there any benefits of running 1080p on 4k monitor(more detailed or anything) or will it just be the exact same? thanks.

There isn't any benefit you'd get over having a native 1080p, I'd just run it at the lower resolution and save your $$$ unless you're the type of person who has to have 144hz. I think 60 is fine myself.

*EDIT* Although...with the 200 dollars you could buy an IPS that has WAY, WAY nicer color and viewing angles...Hmmm, I changed my mind...I'd go for IPS myself. I have one and the color is just SO much nicer.

no, i am fairly new to pc gaming and i dont need anything crazy like that. But my main concern was if there were any drawbacks downsampling a 4k monitor to 1080p like lag or blurriness. once again thanks

I don't know as my monitor is a 1080 and I'd only be guessing. I say just try it, if you don't notice any issues yourself, why let someone tell you that there is (for you anyhow). Everyone is different as far as what is choppy or laggy to them so it's really hard to say how you personally will perceive it. Like I said though, I don't have any 4k to try it with.

i understand, but i want to know why i should upgrade if i can just switch resolutions and get a 60 hz 1080p display that way? are there any benefits of just running 1080p natively?

well haveing a 60 or 75hrz monitor will make everything feel a lot smoother than 30hrz also runing than 1080p on a the 4k monitor will be no different than running 1080p native on a 1080 display,execpt in your case the refresh rate

no but in my monitor, once i swithc to 1080p, not so sure if this applies to 1440p, but when i switch to 1080p, it goes to 60hz refresh rate

yeah i just check it said that at 1080p it's 60hrz. i would still sell it and get a 1080p 75hrz monitor because 60 vs 75 hrz is night and day in comparision. also what are thespec to your current pc?

sell the monitor and buy the one i suggeted and buy another stick of ram, but make sure it's the same modle and speed as your current ram.
