I have 8gb of ram installed on my computer and somehow my system is using 4,9gb of ram on idle straight up from restart. (it starts from 1,25gb and climbs to 4,9gb over 2-3minutes)

This doesn't sound normal. Is it?

I also noticed that my CPU is acting quite weirdly on when idle - other 7 cores shown on task manager are running on calm 10-15% usage but one of them runs on 80-100% of usage. should this be the case or is there something wrong with this? HWMonitor states that still all core temperatures remain at 40-50c.

My system is:

MSi GTX 970
Intel i7 4790k
8gb DDR3 RAM
Win 7 home premium

click on the process header so that its in tree view, and then scroll down to find that svhost and see what its got under it, the view you have is showing top memory user but not whats running under it. Most examples of svhost have something but not always.

Alas, the PID number didn't help as on my pc, it shows as a different process. Not entirely sure how those are allocated, the pid might be different on every machine. The description is the same for all occurances of svhost so that doesn't help.

It shows only a process called wuauclt.exe under it, which says "windows update" on description. it says that this wuauclt.exe uses only 2,7mb of private ram, and 7mb on working set.
