1. How do dual 12V rails work? Do I need to worry about them? This has 2 25A rails!

2. Can I use the forth socket with a peice of DDR3 with more memory? (e.g. 2GB) I would not buy a triple channel memory for AMD. I would buy a 4GB DDR3 memory set with low timings (CAS 7 or less)

3.. I need to know if this will work out of the box without having to upgrade my BIOS I've checked ASUS's website ( http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=KX5kXQSmyaQaXVEP&templete=2 ) and it looks like the X2 545 requires BIOS 0602, which is an updated BIOS. I can't tell you for sure that the MOBO you buy will not already have the updated BIOS or not... It is a roll of the dice.

A lot of MOBO's will let you still bootup with an unsupport CPU. It will just run the CPU at lower speeds and be listed as "Unsupport CPU" or something like that in the BIOS. Once you flash your BIOS, you would be good to go.

You just made me the happiest person alive. I thought that I would have issues with not being able to flash the BIOS!!I thought that I would have to bring it into a store or buy another AMD just to flash it. This is my 2 month old Gaming rig it worked out of the box...then I did the BIOS and all the drivers that needed an upgrade. I had to redo the timing in the BIOS for the Memory because it was causing my comp to freeze up.

I would recommend the PII X2 550 Black Edition for $10.00 more, later if you want to try to activate the other 2 cores you can if your lucky to have a chip with 4 good cores, I have all 4 cores up & running stable with this hardware setup:

So you have a similar setup as me! Cool. For me the Black Edition is $25 dollars more. In the specs I can see it only offers 0.1Ghz more FSB and main clock, and I don't think the $25 is worth it personally, as I can probably OC to that level fine. Or is it actually a lot better? I'm already pushing my budget quite a bit as it is..

Donno if this helps.. but i have a Corei7 920 ,6gb, 2 HD's geforce 275... 5 case fans and a Anteck 650 which has 4 rails... I've been running solid for a month using only 1 rail.

Ok I understand $$, be very careful with the Memory your MoBo is: Memory Standard DDR3 1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.) /1333/1066...so do not go higer than the 1333. [OC] in memory means it does not work out of the box without a change in the BIOS. You will only need 4GBs get 2 sticks because it is Dual Memory system.

This was the first time I ever went into the BIOS to make changes, it is very easy to do 😍

I wonder how long 1333 DDR3 RAM will last until it's obsolete... I might need to do the BIOS thing you suggested in a year for faster ram..

Well I'm upgrading to a DirectX 11 or an HD 4870 soon after I get it. I will be playing Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warefare 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and a bunch of other modern games as well as GRID 2 and The Orange Box.
