So i have a benq XL2420t, first gen.
I notice that when i fresh installed my os and drivers and such that at the default 60hz my mouse seemed abit slower. When i switched it to 120hz refresh it seemed alot smoother. I have herd different opinions on 120hz vs 60hz and such. What i am curious about is if anyone can link me facts regarding some common questions. Is there a difference between colors between 120hz and 60hz? Blurring? Stuttering? Playing 60fps cap on 120hz refresh rate and so on

Basically if anyone has a good thread that's accurate about this or a link between the two, pro's and cons let me know. Because i have an amazing graphics card i just dont want to make it work twice as hard in high end games if i do not have to(providing basically the same quality). seems like capped and running at 60fps is easier for it then 120fps.

Any decent native 120htz panel will do 24/50/60 & 120htz with no Ill effects mate.

Assuming that you're running windows at native 120htz display mode - setting nvidia adaptive vsync to on in nvidia control panel & then frame locking at 60fps vsync in in-game menus is the way to go - it won't affect display quality at all just lock the fps & lower GPU usage.

Thanks for the tip i will check it out, Why adaptive and not full vsync? What about buffering? right now i am playing tomb raider. it gives me the option in game of 60hz refresh rate or 120hz, so i just tryed 60 and no vsync in game and set the game profile in nvidia settings to adaptive, And it stayed at 60 fps and looked good. Any other input? colors ? stuttering? those lines and such?

tomb raider is one of those few games that let you select a res & refresh rate from a big list of all modes supported natively by your monitor.
in this instance adaptive or normal vsync doesnt make a difference as your monitor will have switched to its native 60htz mode-at 60fps cap it should look absolutely perfect.
your monitor will most definitely have a native 60htz mode as its 120htz is directly divisable by 60 (or 2 if you want to look at it that way)
90% of games will only let you select the same refresh rate as your windows settings are set to.
so if your native windows settings are 1080p 120htz then frame capping at 60fps is still running at 120htz.
adaptive vsync eliminates (or more minimises) screen tearing which can occur at any fps below or above your monitors set refresh rate.
So in other games that only let you select resolution it does make a difference.

the best little trick in this respect to force a natural 60 htz mode on all games is to use nvidia control panel to make a custom resolution of either 1918x1080 or 1920x1078 (doesnt really matter which - you lose either 2 lines or 2 rows of pixels ) which when scaled you wont even notice. set this custom res to 60htz.

in any game then it should become a selectable resolution in the graphics menu - selecting it will switch to the monitors 60htz mode which will completely remove screen tearing or lines when vsync is on.

Ok i see what your saying. but why not leave my native at 60hz 1920x1080?
as i mentioned i felt my mouse abit sluggish in windows with it like that.
And tomb does look perfect fyi, i can either have 2x supersampling with every other option except the special hair on, and get a perfect constant 60fps. or reduce some shadows and ambient occlusion and level of detail which is just how the sceneray looks at a distance and can have 4xssa, which would you prefer, out of curiousity.
Another weird thing with tomb raider is i noticed that if i change any setting in the game it gets brighter and the colors looks different and ya..brighter, does that mean washed? its weird...if u have the game try it out.

back to buisness..... So i bought this monitor because at the time i was excited for 3D and pretty sure i was told the only reason it is 120hz is for the purposes of 3D. I do not use 3d haha never did actually, and i have noticed that all new monitors just seem to have higher then 60hz refresh rate. So whats the point? Should i try to get all my games to play at 120fps? Whats the benifit? To my knowledge its only "better" in Fps games. and i honestly do not play that many fps games. However as i said, if i leave my native resolution at 60, on my 120hz monitor i feel kinda silly and my mouse feels sluggish, what else am i not noticing?

Appoligise for any confusion and bad grammer. I understand what your saying about having a custom resolution and being able to set that so it will turn any game into 60hz mode, which seems like a good idea, except maybe fps games? but anymore insight would be appreciated. And do colors get washed as they say at higher fps?
