Hello fellow readers!

I'm looking forward in buying a new monitor so I can replace my old TV'ish (Monitor), but I'm on a tight budget and I'm willing to spend around 150€ on a 75hz monitor. I found two solid choices so far an Iiyama G2530HSU-B1 and a AOC G2460VQ6. I'll probably buy the AOC one because it features a Display port cable in the box unlike the Iiyama monitor to save extra shipping

I want to ask though to anyone having a 75hz monitor can you notice a slight difference from 60hz in gaming and in everyday use e.g (On the desktop) Because I heard a lot of people notice can notice a difference in 144hz monitors but not so much on 75hz

Is it going to be worth a buy overall considering the image quality if yes which one, or should I save up more for a 144hz monitor?

Also I know that both have the freesync (AMD) technology and I have a GTX 970 they are incompatible so I think I'm going to use V-Sync to avoid stuttering (If there's a better solution to that problem I'd love to hear it)

Thanks as always in advance!

Yes, there is a fairly significant difference in going from 60hz to 75hz. It does not sound like much, but it is 25% higher refresh rate and it makes a difference.

Your current GPU cant push 144hz on AAA games, so I am not sure a you will see as much benefit from a 144hz monitor. But I a year or two when you have a new GPU, you may wish you had the 144hz panel. I say to spend a little more than you think on a monitor because they will last longer than any other part of your system. A good monitor will last a decade.

V-sync is fine. To me, the lag is really only noticeable in quick twitch first person shooters. But your next GPU, you may want to consider AMD to use freesync.

You probably wont notice much of a difference between 60hz and 75hz on the desktop, the cursor icon may look a bit smoother as it moves across the screen, this is quite noticeable when going from 60hz to say 100hz or more. In gaming it will be more noticeable, it wont be night and day but I bet you will be able to see the difference especially if you have never or haven't spent a lot of time looking at a screen that runs at higher than 60hz.

Vsync gets rid of screen tearing not stuttering. Vsync can actually cause stuttering if fps falls below the refresh rate of the monitor. There is no better option without gsync or freesync, besides fast sync. But fast sync will only work as intended if fps is at least double that of the refresh rate.

Yeah, the 970 is getting slightly outdated when talking about AAA games I think, it will have a hard time pushing high frame rates, on the upcoming games. I don't want to spend it all on a 144hz monitor for now, because I want to keep a few bucks for games. I think they will look better on a 75hz screen. not only because of the higher hz but in image quality as well.

Thanks for the reply! :)

That's pretty interesting, and no I haven't spent a lot of time looking at a high refresh monitor, I did try a 144hz monitor on a store once for like 10 minutes and yeah I could tell the difference. maybe I will tell the difference overtime when I'll spend some time with the 75hz one, plus now that I think about it getting a 144hz monitor with the 970 might not be a great solution in AAA games because it doesn't push that many frames.

Also yeah I made a mistake about the V-sync analogy, right now I've activated the Adaptive sync setting, I'll try and mess with those settings when I'll buy the new monitor.

Thank you for the help! :)

That's cool, have you noticed a difference more in AAA games or light games like (CS:GO, Rocket League, Quake Champions) and etc.

I was playing mostly BF3 and BF4 when I was using it. I definitely could see and feel the difference going from 60 to 75.

Another trick you could try when you get it is to turn Vsync on, then manually cap the game's FPS to 74. It will look buttery smooth and eliminate any mouse lag that is usually associated with vsync being on.
