This has been happening for a while now.

Every time I boot my PC, there's an enormous chunk of my RAM being used (approx 4/8GB) on what seems to be absolutely nothing. I've gone to task manager and all processes combined hardly add up to 1GB. This lead me to believe that I might have an virus which is eating the RAM, but both AVG and Malwarebytes haven't detected anything which fixed the problem.

I first noticed this when I would boot up BF4 and the performance would be around 15FPS. The only way to temporarily fix the issue is to shutdown the PC, boot it back up and voila, the usage is down to a normal reading.

Can anyone help me find the source of the issue without having to re-install Windows. That's my absolute last option.

Thanks in advance

Hmm, in task manager right click on explorer.exe and click end task (when you have closed all other programs as you will lose them)

wait a 20 seconds and then click> file> new task and enter explorer.exe this will reboot windows without rebooting the system, wait another 20 seconds and see what your memory usage is

Sorry for the late reply. Different time zone.

So check this out. I had 44% of RAM being used with the following applications running,

I tried your method of retarting explorer and it didn't fix anything

eddieb101 your integrity really showed once you were accidentally awarded best solution and ceased to help.

Back to the thread, the problem seems to have fixed itself with an update. The thing with BF4 is that it's such a broken game that it constantly leads me to second guessing my own hardware when in-fact it's this game alone which is broken as hell.
