just bought:

Intel E6400 2.13Ghz Core2Duo
ECS P965T-A 64bit
GEIL PC800 1GB (single)
GeCUBE X1650PRO 256MB DDR2
SEAGATE SATA 160GB

does a 32bit Windows will work on a 64bit board/processor

i tried toinstall the Sp3/sp2 32bit Windows, but when it comes to the setup,it rather hang or reboot with and error(beep sound). but after shutting it down, then boot it up again, it turns back to normal. (the error appears only when i tried to instal the 32bit windows)

hope you can help me with this, cause i can'tget to use my core 2 duo..grr... TIA..

Yes. A 32-bit processor is 32-bit only; but both Intel's and AMD's 64-bit processors are both 32-bit and 64-bit capable.
Your Intel chip is a 32-bit chip with 64-bit extensions, basically.
I don't think it is your chip or your copy of Windows that is the problem. You have missed something in your setup or don't have something plugged in correctly .... or something.
I'm not good at diagnosing installation errors (remotely -- If i was there I might could figure it out). But someone else on here might be able to help you.

wonder what's seems to be my problem here? why i can't get to install the windows.. it crashes everytime the setup started. and one more thing, thus the dos version of partion(fdisk) supports 160gb of sata? it only detecs 21gb of it.. tnx for the reps..

Are you installing vista? I haven't been able to install it from DVD yet except for Beta2. RC1&2 and RTM haven't worked for me that way so I have to install Beta2 (or XP) and dump the install files onto the HD and setup from there (can even clean install this way).

since the XP32 won'[twork for me,im planning to try the vista, or atleast XP64, but still what if i get the same problem? the parts don't seem to a have problem or defect. i just bought it yesterday, and i still can'tget it to work. i wonder why everytime windows started up the setup, it crashes, reboot, beep sound, no signal(display). but when i turned it off, boot it up, it turns back to normal. (well in dos).

sorry but will you explain bout the 32bit chip with 64bit extension?
its the intel E6400 2.13Ghz 1066mhz 64bit?

This is the unfortunate events of being a DYI builder, there or aften components that, for what ever reason, were not tested in a particular combination.

Go into your bios and disable any sound settings, disconnect any USB devices prior to install, and try your HD on a different SATA port.

BSOD during windows install has been reported for different cases around the web, usually are related to having USB gear installed during the windows setup routine, or sometimes different combinations of SATA drives.

i've tried doing it, but still same results.

All 64 bit processors are backwards compatible with existing 32 bit apps (if not they wouldn't even have gotten to the market very well) As for your problem is that a typo PC800? What it sounds like to me is ram. Make sure your timings are right as they don't always auto correct and some DDR2 ram run at higher voltages then what the board defaults at. Try to avoid any cheap motherboards as well cause they'll just give you more problems then what you paid for.

ei guys, tnx for all your help. it's ok now, i think. what i did was, in bios i change the RAM to 533mhz only, it works fine. but when putting it back to 800mhz which is supposed to be since its a geil PC800, the system crashes. and one more thing i checked the official site of the geil, i see no PC800 Single channel in their line of products? do you think its a counterfeit? i have the white heat spreader cover.

it says in the cover
1GB PC-6400
DDR2-800 CL=5-5-5-15 (don't know bout his #s an explanation will be great..)
GX21GB6400LX
Voltage 1.8V
made in taiwan.

You have to up the voltage (check on the manufacturer site) to get to 800. You may also have to manually set those timings. Your mobo also has to be able to handle 800MHz. Also, keep FSB normal (266-333) and only change the ram speed to 800DDR (400 ext).

oh i see.. well thanks a lot.. but, does anyone here can help me configure the setup, so i can use the mem to 800hmz. in the voltage menu in my board(ecs-p965t) the only options there is only +0.05 etc. but the board doesn't display what the current voltage of the mem is. so, i dont exactly know what to choose from +0.05 up to its highest. and the site doesn't seem to have a support for that issue.. thanks again for helping.

On GEIL's site I don't find any single-channel 800MHz info. Their 667 & 533 memory takes 1.8-1.9V. I'd try that 1.9V on yours with the timings manually set to 5-5-5-15 (one of the bios menus should have timings grayed out and when you change ram timings to manual become available to change to the values above - do this even if the bios already specifies these values in gray).

Jo

so assuming the current or deafult voltage on my mem is 1.8v, i will manually set it to +0.10? to reach the 1.9v for the mem?

Yeah that's correct, but see if anywhere on the packaging (or specs from the place where you bought the ram) it says the allowable [max] voltage. For example my OCZ set says I can run it up to 2.2V while keeping the warranty. The thing is that RAM is (in my experience anyway) the component that is messed up brand new the most often. Therefore I don't want to void my warranty as I've had to send back a few sets.

Honestly I would just call GEIL's tech support - they should guide you through the BIOS setup required to use their product and they will know if certain things go wrong that the memory is bad and needs to be sent back.

Jo

i have tried setting it up to +0.10, 0.20 and +0.30, and changing the timings manually, 5-5-5-15 as indicated in the ram itself. same problems occur. yes, i think that's my last option, calling the tech support.
