650w PSU WITH R9 290 OC EDITION

will a 650w psu work with an asus r9 290 OC edition gpu

Just tried the card in open air(test bench) and ran a game and 10 mins in it brings up artefacts then blue screens straight away

Since it most likely is defective, that's to be expected. Personally I'd RMA that GPU.

The gpu was locked on 20% fan speed that was the problem put it up to 50% been playing no crashes since last week

i just tested it out with a stress test on furmark at 1080p res 2x msaa for 15 mins and it was stable and only reached 84C.

Should i run it for longer or is 15 mins alright

15 minutes should be enough, particularly if it no longer fails while gaming.

does it matter if i do a test on 3dmark or furmark or are they the same when it comes to stress testing

Try both just in case one gets the GPU hotter than the other.

It passed firestrike with a score around 8000

More important is getting no issues while stress testing to ensure stability.

Possibly, but that would be difficult to determine without the error code (presuming it was recorded and available in events viewer).
