6700 i7 vs 1600 ryzen

Hello everyone , im new to this forums.

So the thing is , atm im using a 6100 i3 cpu and i wanna upgrade it since when destiny 2 launches on pc i wanna play it , while streaming or recording for youtube and i know the i3 will have trouble doing that , so i wanna upgade. Nowi have 2 options , either get the 6700k for 330€ and put it the existing mobo , but i cant overlock it , or get the ryzen 1600 with a new mobo for 3€ less and i can overlock it. Which is the best choice?

Ryzen. You can overclock even on the stock cooler. The 6700k might be a little stronger on single thread tasks, but when you are doing multiple things like you are talking about, the ryzen should do much better on those things, and isn't bad at all for gaming either.

The i7 is a slightly better performer in strictly gaming, but the Ryzen5 1600's additional cores/threads will likely be beneficial for streaming/recording in addition to gaming.

Personally I'd opt for the Ryzen5 1600 & B350 board - but only if you're looking to overclock...... Ryzen also benefits from faster memory, and with an i3-6100, I assume you have 2133Mhz?

You could always look at the i7-7700 (since you have a compatible chip, you could update your BIOS to the latest revision to support it).
3.6GHz, boost to 4.2GHz.... .and can be had for ~280EUR.

As Barty1884 points out, Intel parts are often better in a pure gaming system and this is particularly so at 1080 rez, so if you're playing on a high refresh 1080 display then I'd go for the i7 option and be done, I wouldn't think a i7 6700K would have too many problems playing/streaming/recording either.

Note, the 'K' chips run higher base clocks even though their Boost clocks are the same, or very similar to, those of their locked (non 'K') siblings so even though you won't be able to OC, your system will be running higher clocks under most circumstances.

The comparison you've listed isn't apples and apples as the MoBo has a significant impact. For example, what audio is provided on each MoBo ? If one is the modern ALC 1150 / ALC 1220 and another has the outdated and low budget ALC887 that would have a big impact on my decision. Also what GFX card will affect that decision

With the 6700k up against the 1600, Intel wins (3) more than it loses (1) with a few very close ties

Not necessarily, but if his ram is only say 2133, faster ram would be beneficial.

Im onyl playing on 60 hz atm but will go to 75 hz soon.

No; Ryzen, i3-6100, and i7-7700K uses DDR4.

I'm running 2400. I wouldn't worry about it right now if budget is tight. Wait until prices come down. The microcenter rep told me that there's a little difference, but neglible. So in other words, if you are running 4k or 144hz and a high end card, yes, you'd probably see it more. If you are 1080p 60hz screen, I wouldn't bother, at least not until prices come way down on memory and you happen to have the extra cash.

Regarding the ryzen 1600 vs the 6700k.

I'd say that's honestly a close call , the ryzen is certainly better at live streaming with minimal fps drops but the i7 will without a doubt pull more fps in the first place.

The beta showed a complete lack of utilisation of the smt's on ryzen , actually rendering the 1600 a 6 threaded CPU against the i7's 8.

That said its a beta & general performance in multiplayer is still up in the 70's.

Maybe I'm wrong, but with current consoles being 8 core, I think we will see games start getting to utilize more than quad core, starting to see it in Battlefield 1 a little I think. So later on, if it does go that way, I think the Ryzen may do better. Plus they are supposed to support the socket until 2020, so you should be able to drop a better cpu in later and move along.

I think my gpu cant pull more fps than 70-80 fps on high preset anyways and with streaming its probaly gonan be better with the extra cores. I have a 480 rx 4gb from AMD

If you're happy changing the board (I'm assuming you have a cheap b150 or h110) then its still not going to be a bad choice IMO.

Factoring in a cooler for the i7 adds another €30 cost + the fact is you can then sell your i3 & board as a package to grab a little more money back.

The non use of smt also happened in the early versions of WTW & Ashes but was soon remedied buyvthe developer.

That said even if it isn't you still have the full use of 6 smt threads for streaming / transcoding because they simply aren't being used at all in the beta.

im only afraid that in destiny the performance is gonna suck on ryzen sicn ethats gonna be my main game , and as i saw the fps on 7700k is a lot higher and the lows are a lot better

I Think ill go with the ryzen since im gonna save money and i can always OC it with the mobo im goign with , a 350 tomahawk from msi ;😀

The tomahawk is supposed to be a good board. I will say I'm using an ASRock ab350m pro 4 in my setup, and it does well, overclocked to 3.7 on stock cooling. Go ahead and order an am4 bracket for your hyper 212 and reuse that though.
