Hello,

I would like some advice please on the following;

My query is upgrading to a 980 GTX, please see my spec below;

5820k @ 4ghz
16GB DDR4 2666
Asus 680 GTX 2GB GDRR5
Asus X99-S
RM1000 Corsair

BenQ 2411T 144hz

I mean will there actually be a massive improvement in FPS in my games? I will be purhasing Evolve and GTA V for the PC in the next coming weeks/months.

All questions and answers are most welcome as always.

Thansk

If you ever decide to get a 2nd one, you can get the Asus Swift if you feel like upgrading to the ultimate gaming monitor for the ultimate gaming experience, with 2 of those GPUs, you'll dominate that monitor with no problems and run super smooth with enhanced graphics plus g sync capability :) But I'd wait until the monitor is down to like $500, it's $800 right now, I might get 3 of those if they drop to $500.

That monitor is 2560 x 1440, it is like in between 1080p and 4k, so it's not as difficult to run as 4k does. It's the sweet spot to be in with your set up for some high fps gaming without tearing, it's everything a gamer needs :)

I agree that the 980 is a massive jump over the 680.
But there is an alternative to think about. The 980 will seem old to the GTX 1080 or GTX 1180 or whatever successor will be released within a year. And that's a problem with anyone who judges by the numbers rather than the capability.
My point is, the GTX 680 will play pretty much anything you throw at it for at least one or two more years. Buy the 980 only if you are getting unplayable FPS in any of the games with your 680. I am very sure, by the time that happens, there will be a monster successor to the 980. :)

Lone - That monitor looks like a beast! So SLI is required realistically?

Rit_86 - I agree, I hear the Pascal series Nvidia 1000 series is to be released 2016. I hope Nvidia mention this soon. I see it is already on the Wiki.

Thanks

Well, not required, but if you wanna use it up to its full capabilities like over 100 fps in nearly all games without any tearing and guarantee yourself a super high fps to match the monitor then I'd get a 2nd 980 just in case :)

If the prices drop down to $500 like I want them to and if the gtx 980 ti ever comes out, I might get 3 of those Swift's and get 4 of the 980 ti's to match/run it. My current GPU is 295x2, so I can't use g sync, lol. Plus even if they could I don't think it will be enough to push 3x 1440p since it is even higher than 4k in pixels.

Yep. 980s only really come into their own on 4k or 144Hz 1140p monitors. My 680 works fine on my 60Hz 1440p setup with everything I've played on it so far. The one area that might be an issue though is the RAM. Most 680's have 2GB RAM. This might not be enough to play some games at 1440p+ as well as they could. If your 680 is one of the 4GB models, there should be loads of life left in it.

Went from GTX 670 to 780ti and love the difference added the AOC G-sync as it is the least expensive G-sync and what a great combo. There is something special about having a fast single GPU, more consistency if you play games that do and don't support SLI well.
