Hey. I'm using a Dell 4600(AGP based) 😳 , but building my own custom built after AM2 comes out. I have a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳 . I know the card sucks terribly. I'm selling it however and I'm planning to buy a new card with the money I get plus the money that I have already. I wanted to know if the 7800GS is worth US$50 more than the 6800GS. Plus I still have to buy at least a 350w power supply. This computer has a 250w.

I'm going with eVGA 😀. I saw the performances on the net, but what do you guys think.

7800 GS i just bought one (evga co superclocked edition) if you have an amd xp or pentium 4 or better id go with it. but keep in mind if your going am2 soon your gonna need a pci-e graphics card.

my opinion.

keep your crappy graphics card and wait

and actually im poretty sure mine sucks more

ready for it?

GeForce 4 MX 440

AND

wait for it

its on plain PCI (not express) and i can run CS;Source on Medium with no AA

u'll live thru it
😀

Go For The 7800GS , you WONT get a better chance than that if you wait , if you wait for a better CPU , or a PCI-e VGA , you will have to spend more and more money , this is my oponion , and remember that 7800GS can handle all the games at least for a year ,(at good details) ,it is a good choice !!

My specs are...
Intel Pentium 4 2.8e ghz (socket 478...upgrade choice not great)
768mb ram (buying 1 more gig with the video card)
250gb, 40gb harddrives
250w power supply
Thats all thats relevant...

Ok thanks man. I was leaning that way as well. But one more questin...what about the 6600 and 6800 for my system. I know AMD performs far better than Intel in gaming? Or is there an ATI car that you'd recommend. Any thoughts welcome.

buddy ur on the Nvidia part of th eforum we all recommend nvidia here also lifetime warranty

my friend has a 6600GT and he can run BF2 on full ppl say they can run fear on full w/o AA

6600GT would be a fine choice too also its ALOT cheaper like ~$50

The 7800GS probably won't run to its full potential because the CPU might be a bottleneck.

why does everyone say dat?? what is the minimum "non-bottleneck" spec anyways?? the guy has a 2.8e ghz, how is that a bottleneck?

I am using the 6800GS, and can run everything (except F.E.A.R.) at 1024X768 at max detail. You might be better off getting the 6800 and using the money you save to get a different power supply (although I think you have to buy some kind of adapter to use a new PS with a dell pc). I dont think that your 250 watt will support either card 🙁

Well the sticker on my power supply has 250w. But do you have to have a certain type for Dell computers? This is an August 2004 model 😳. I'm going to go with the 6800GS, so that would fill the gap till AM2 comes, unless Conroe is better...highly doubt it but who knows. Competition is good for the consumer!
