Anyone who buys a card to me needs to have a damn good reason. Either their other card broke, or they had nothing else and had to start with something. These cards are selling ABOVE MSRP like you notice, and I said before, and really the resellers are gouging people for the lack of supply. ATI is supposed to have alot of these things, but theydon't have enough to meet demand, and nVs production problems with IBM have hurt their availability meaning that an alternate is also scarce so the entire sector is low on supply.
Anyone who has an R9800/FX59xx should wait until the introduction fever subsides. Sure when the PCI-EX cards/mobos hit I'll be very tempted to get new stuff ASAFP, but not for more than the MSRP.

I remember seeing one for under $350 (341 or 347 IIRC), but those are brief period things, and usually once they are posted on the web shortly thereafter, poof sold-out. At least they aren't ETA items, that's what were seeing with most of the X800XT/XTPE and GF6800U and many GTs.
I hate paper launches, but these paper 'offerings' are even worse IMO.
And yes it's hilarious seeing the R9800XT for that price, I wonder if they have any takers? But it's no different than BestBuy/FutureShop selling the GF4ti for $400 CDN right next to R9800 and FX5900s going for the same price or less.
HECK NCIX was selling one GF4ti for more than the R9800Pro's MSRP just a few months ago, like $550+CDN.

I would say if you are building now then it would be best to wait a few more weeks and see what materializes (also the prices of things like the CURRENT cards will actually come down and by then the cards should be available).
If you plan on re-building in a year then don't worry about PCI-EX or DDR2, but if you want a mobo basis that you can keep for next year, then it makes sense to have a forward looking basis.
The thing is that ATI and nV will be making AGP cards for the generation after this (unlike thye initially said), so no worries one way or the other.

Yup why over pay for a new vid card. When they are priced to high to begin with. That's why I have not bought a new X800Pro yet. Untill Best Buy sells them . Then I buy ,OC it and return it inside of 30 Days. Then wait for the price to drop before I buy it.
