690 vs titanz

Solution
I'm an idiot. I that thought you liked the old style reference cooler. I imagine that you like the black shroud on the cards, so that they match your motherboard and the rest of your build. I get it now. Another option you have for that color is the Titan X. That card has the same sexy black color, with the exception of the green Geforce on the top of the card. The 980 Ti is a much better value at $650, but if you want your build to remain all black, you could purchase two Titan X's for $2,000 total. Keep in mind that the 980 Ti is roughly only 3% slower in FPS during gameplay. I'm assuming that the difference in rendering performance is similar. So now your real question would be: 2 x 690 in SLI / 2 x Titan X in SLI / Titan Z...

I only want to choose between these cards because I only like the look of these, I would be using them for gaming, rendering, Photoshop, etc. I have an origin pc case, corsair 1200i, i7 980X Extreme Edition, Asus Rampage: Black Edition Motherboard, dual gtx 690s in sli, 16gb ddr3 corsair vengeance, 3tb seagate hard drive, windows 8.1 pro, I posted this question because I wanted to know if it would be beneficial for me to upgrade to the titan z or stay with the 2 690s

Sweet setup. What I'm about to say makes me cringe, because I hate when people don't give me direct answers, which is what I'm about to do. You most likely would be better off switching to 980 Ti's. For the $1,600 price of a Titan Z on NewEgg, you could purchase 2 1/2 980 Ti's and have greater performance. Also be aware that the Titan Z occupies three slots, unlike most other cards that occupy two.

But between your two choices, Titan Z or 2 x 690's in SLI, I'd stick with the 2 x 690's in SLI. But I've never had possession of either of those cards, so you're in a better position to make this choice.

is the 980 ti better than the 780 ti?

Yes! Definitely.

I'd also like to recant a few statements that I said before. Not a big deal that the Titan Z occupies three slots, because you're already using four for your 2 x 690's; no big deal. After responding to this thread, it occurred to me that I shouldn't have made a recommendation either way because I don't know the performance difference between the two card setups. But honestly, I haven't yet been able to find any comparisons. Titan Z's are relatively new and the 690's are over two years old, I believe. I also understand that you like the old style Nvidia reference coolers. Aesthetics aside, I know people who have four 980 Ti's in their setups and have a rendering beast on their hands. It's a lot of processing power for $2,600.

Not a problem at all. I just don't have that much experience with graphics cards as I'd like. I have a friend who has 2 gtx titans, is the 980 ti still better??

Solution
The 980 Ti and Titan X are *very* close in performance. The 980 Ti has 6 GB of VRAM and the Titan X has 12 GB of VRAM. However, I should mention that if you announce that you bought the two Titan X's instead of 980 Ti's, you're going to get a lot of pushback from users on this site and possibly your computer knowledgeable friends. It's kind of considered silly buying Titan X's, ever since Nvidia released the 980 Ti's. But if you have tons of disposable income, go for it.

I think I'm gonna go with the titan X's, thanks so much for you're help bud

Way better...

Yea I thought so
