Hi:

I hope that you are all well. Thank you for stopping by.

I just got a "new" (used) internal UHD drive for my HP Slimfit PC. It is model ATA HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N. It only plays Blu-ray discs and not 4K Blu-ray discs.

I think I need to flash this drive with some firmware? I checked the MakeMKV forum and I think I need to install a .bin file via a program called PowerISO.

I believe that the right .bin file is: HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934

Am I on the right track?

Thanks.

Why did you not wait for a response before doing something that most likely bricked the drive and wasn't necessary in the first place? Blindly updating firmware without fully understanding what you are doing, and why is the single most common cause of these problems.

What playback software are you using, That's most likely where the issue lies, either a configuration issue or simply lack of having read and understood any instructions.

I'm using VLC media player in conjunction with MakeMKV. I've used this combination successfully before my external Archgon UHD player/writer was lost or stolen in transit.

Why didn't I wait? At some time after I posted the question, I vaguely recalled doing this process years ago---successfully---with my Archgon.

Thanks to all who made helpful contributions. I'm working with some folks at the MakeMKV forum for the remainder of this issue.

There's no need to belittle me. It's counterproductive especially when I feel bad about it already.
