[SOLVED] 7 gpu's in a gigabyte x299-wu8

Hello,

I just put together my new workstation with a Gigabyte x299-wu8 motherboard and 7 GPU's (1080ti & 1070ti). The problem is that whenever I put in more than 2 gpu's the system won't post and hangs on the message "Installation of the PCH runtime services". This motherboard should be build to handle many GPU's so I would expect that it would run without any problems. Unfortunately this is not the case. I've looked in the bios but couldn't find a setting that could be helpful.

Anybody knows why this motherboard doesn't work with more than 2 GPU's?

Yes of course:

MB: Gigabyte x299-wu8
CPU: E5-7640x
PSU: Coolermaster 1500w
Memory: Aegis 64gb 3200mhz

can't find that cpu anywhere and not in the cpu support list

Oh <Mod Edit> sorry I misspelled! it's i5 not E5. Sorry used to working with E series CPU's.

i5 not support in that mobo, and it only have 16 gpu lane.

I see, so even though the mobo has 2 PLX chips it can't work with more than 2 GPU's?

Do you know what is the minimum PCIE lanes needed to let this mobo work with 7 GPU's?

cpu not on the support list. don't know what it will do.

That's probably the reason why that list is so short..

Too bad there aren't any 7 pcie mobo on the TRX40 chipset.. Intel is overpriced..
