734 Error with Bluetooth GPRS Connection

Using a Belkin Bluetooth USB on my Dell Laptop (Win XP) and a Siemens S56
Icannot solve the annoying problem when attempting to connect via GPRS to
Cingular.

The laptop dials the cell phone/modem (*99#), verifies the
username/password, and then fails when attempting to 'register the computer
on the network' with a 734 error. Nothing has helped so far to resolve
(modem connection string, cingular data connect software [same problem])

Anyone else seen this? What gives?

You should be using the Data Connect software from Cingular. You should
be able to buy the CD only. The CD gives you the option for wireless
connection with or without a cable. Besure to be plugged in to a
landline connection while doing the install to get the latest updates
for the softwre. It will also install all the network authications you
need. Also be sure you have the Cingular data plan on your account. It
will not authicate you on the network if you don`t. CINGULAR CHARGES
BY THE Kbyte of you dont have the plan. It does not come from your
minutes if you are trying to use the GPRS data speeds. You can use the
gsm data speeds but thats 19kbs and it should use your minutes. Check
with Cingular to besure they do have a data support number. Ask for it
at customer care.

Yeah John,

Since Cingular charges by the kbite on the Pay per uses and not by the
minute. Be Thankful. Just connecting will cost you as much as $30.00
and if you open a website $200.00 gone just like that. You need the
Data Connect Feature tuned on your account for the phone to register on
the network period. Have them add the smallest plan I think is $19.99
and give it a shot. Also make sure they provision all the correct codes
on the account. Sometime new csr miss a feature code that enbles the
feature. Give it about an hour to update in the switch and then click
connect with the Cingular data connect software and go on from there.
ALso besure to click on update software with you laptop plugged into a
landline internet connection to get the latesest version of the
software

Thanks for your reply. I am setup at Cingular with the Wireless Internet
eXpress service enabled and initially on pay-per-KB.

I am able to surf the Internet via my phone on GPRS without any trouble.

Question: In order for the laptop to make a connection via the cellphone, do
I have to have a Data Connect plan in addition to the Wireless Internet
eXpress enabled on the account in order for the Dial-up Networking to make a
connection? If so, then this is my problem. It seems to me that the cheapest
Data connect plan starts at $19.99 / month.

Thanks again for your help - NO ONE at Cingular customer support seems to
have a clue about what the problem or solution is.

Thanks,

1. You should get the MEdia Works plan with unlimited Wireless Intrnet
Express to keep charges at a reasonable level.

2. I have to Dial *99***1# to connect to my SE T616.

3. Check the phone while the dialing is going on to see if a message somes
up. I initially got a message on the phone that the UserID and Password were
incorrect, but Windows gave the 734 error. See
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132602 for the proper
user id and password.

Thanks for all of your help. The problem was in the login/password from
Dial-up Networking. Once I added login: 'WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM' and password
'CINGULAR1' it connected successfully at 56Kb.

I had read somewhere that this does not need to be filled in since the
information is already setup in the phone profile and the GPRS connection is
successful from the phone to the Internet. In addition, the 'Verifying
Username/Password' part of the dial-up networking sequence always succeeded
so I did not think that this was the ultimate problem...

At any rate - thanks for the follow-ups.
