I recently bought a Gateway GT5228 with a 4200 and 2gigs DDR2. I would like to upgrade the video card I have. I currently am running an older Geforce 6600 PCI-E card and would like to know if the 7600 GTS would run on a 300 Watt PSU. Would it be safe?

It's called the 7600 GT. There hasnt been a GTS since the Geforce 2 days..

If u want to know if the PSU is good enough, i need the name.
Or if u dont know, u must check how many Amps u have under the +12v rail.

I have a Gateway GT4010 and upgraded to a 7600GT and it works perfectly fine with my stock 300w PSU. Its been running smoothly for 6 months now :D . It should work on your PC as well.

The GTS is just a Very slightly underclocked 7600GT, otherwise, its the same roughly. Depending on the amperage per rail your current power supply offers, will depend if it will hold the card.

The 7600 GTS is like the PX7600 GT from Leadtek - a simple varation of the name done by a single manufactur, interesting.

The +12v rail is all that matters, and it should hold that card fine.

you're fine, if those numbers r true, gateway really undervalues their psus, 18A on both 12v rails usually = 500w or more. that 300w must be for sustained wattage. Finally a honest company!
