this cant be right?

- intel core i7 7700k (no oc)
- Asus IX code mobo
- Asus Strix 1080ti 11GB OC edition
- h440 case with 3 exhaust fans and 3 intakes

i use air cooler and i have used it on other computer and it works damn good, i have the CoolerMaster GTS V8.

i built my system 1 week ago, without a graphics card, got that today, so i installed it, updated driver, and wanted to play some games.

so the temps are
- IDLE 33-45c, it jumps quite alot. even saw 50 once.
- when i started Mass Effect andromeda, temps jumped to 80c and did not go under 75c, same with Dragon Age inquisition.

i tested GTA 5 did not go over 70c.

i did a RealBench stress test, and it went to 90-100c and started freezing the computer, so i quickly stopped that.

HW (Load):https://puu.sh/x4daR/7534e402f3.png

if you need me too provide more info, i'll gladly do that. thanks for all help!

Edit: on windows startup it ramps to 80c, goes down after a few mins.

Solution
Hmm, voltages seem to be typical for stock settings, the temperatures are very high though.

Are you 100% sure the cooler is making good surface contact? I would remove it to check just in case.

Many do have poorly applied TIM under the heatspreader, but I've not seen one with spikes into the 90s with such a massive air cooler. I thought mine was pretty bad hitting 91C under a full load with a waterblock on it, but yours is quite a bit for 1.136 core voltage. I was pushing 1.4 volts and delidding brought me down to 78C as the highest peak (typically)

Have you updated the BIOS since you got it? I know my Gigabyte board reported completely different numbers when I installed the second release.

yes, i updated the bios just to check if that made a difference, i'll remove the cooler and see.

Your cpu cooler should handle the cpu without any real problems when the 7700k runs in stock settings.
Your Vcore is fine.
Are you sure the GPU heat is not messing up the tempratures inside the case? Like do you have enough airflow to draw the hot air out of the case?

If you are honest and say everything is good exept from the cpu temps.... well then congratz... you my friend sadly has gotten a bad 7700k, just like I did...
Only solution to that problem is to delid the cpu and swap out the original TIM intel uses and change to liquid metal.

I myself had very high gains in doing so temp wise.

My own cpu stats and cooling setup on cpu:
Full custom watercooled with a 480mm Hardwarelabs black ice nemisis GTX with 8 EK vardar 120ER in push / pull and water temp never ever go above 23-24 degree celcius. Ek supremacy evo waterblock
When my cpu was stock I had 92 degree max and close to 90 degree depending on what games I played..

After delid I now run 5GHz 24/7 and CPU temps never go over 61 - 62 degree celcius under stress tests and during gaming I stay around 42 - 54 depending on what game I play. So for me a pretty heavy temps gain in deliding.

i'll try delidding, if all else fails, never done it before, so it should be entertaining. :)

Yeah, it isn't bad at all with Skylake/Kabylake, no components up top. I just used the old razor blade method and it only took about an hour. A small struggle to get my CPU cooler out of the way, but thankfully the soft tubing let me get away with it so I didn't have to drain the loop.

With an air cooler it shouldn't take any time at all. But only do this if you can afford to replace the CPU.

If you an unsure how to delid and never seen videos about it or know someone who has done it before I would advice you to get this one:
https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/

I used that one myself its pretty straight forward. Do read up and watch some videos on how to apply liquid metal if you wanna go for that.
I used Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on the cpu die and under the IHS.
Between the IHS and waterblock (for you that would be the Coolermaster GTS V8) I used Thermal grizzly Kryonaut.

Just read up and watch a few movies about and it is pretty straight forward. Rockitcool even has a few videos on theyr site.

today i noticed that my motherboard also ramps up to 80 under load, haven't done anything yet, all i did was add a new monitor (a cheap 22") Samsung 22" LED S22F350H.

But the monitor is connected to my GPU which is very strange that my mobo would get hotter, did not see my mobo jump to 80c when i made this post yesterday.

is it the case then? it felt cold inside when i opened it yesterday, and i felt cold air coming in, and i really dont want to change because it the HyperBeast limited edition h440.

EDIT: Seems i fixed the mobo getting too hot, i just clicked on "RESET CMOS" on my mobo and now its at 32c under idle and load.

Alright, sorry for not posting in a couple of weeks, i was in the process of moving. Now that i'm in my new apartment i took off the cpu cooler, and i found out why i had problems, i had left on the plastic thing on the cooler!, so embarrassing when i noticed that. Now my computer sits at 38-40 IDLE and 50-65 under LOAD, rarely goes over 75, i'm happy, and can live with that, but i kinda want to overclock it a little so i'll probably try to delid it anyways.

I have already bought the delid tool from RockitCool, just need to get my hands on some liquid metal.
